Five Years Later

Lillian’s POV

I walked the now-familiar hallways of the Lycan Kingdom palace, the place becoming like a second home to me.

After leaving the hospital with Teacher all those years ago, he had taken me right to the border where I had met with Reginald, who had been waiting.

“This is where I leave you,” Teacher said, keeping his distance from Reginald.

Reginald held out his hand for me. “Come, cousin. Let’s go home.”

There had been no evidence that we had been related. The results from back then hadn’t returned yet, and all of the tests I’d taken since then had been inconclusive. Reginald insisted it was only because my awakening remained dormant. He was so confident about it, for reasons that I couldn’t fully understand.

When I asked him about it once, he had told me, “I can just tell. We are related.”

Who was I to doubt him, when his kindness had saved me from my blight? He had taken me to the palace, where I had been accepted and welcomed by all.

My children – I had fraternal twins – had been borne in safety and care, and over time, I had become the Royal Instructor, teaching the fighting and training skills that had been bestowed to me by Teacher to others.

I treated Reginald like a cousin, and my kids treated him like an uncle. The rest of the Lycan royal family were like extended family. None of them, nor the court, were threatened by me. I had no desires for the throne, and everyone knew and accepted that. I only wanted a safe place to raise my children. That, I was given here.

And for five years, things had gone well. My children excelled in school, and I was well regarded as Royal

Instructor.

The only thing that wasn’t perfect was the longing that remained in my heart.

Leaving had been the right choice for everyone’s safety, but that didn’t mean that I couldn’t miss Grayson, the bond we shared, and the love we had for each other. Though I had rejected him, I still felt that love keenly inside of me. It hadn’t dimmed these past five years, and I doubted now that it ever would.
