Chapter 218
Mommy!” Madison shouted.
“Uncle Reggie!” said Alex.
Reginald immediately relaxed and sheathed his weapon. He turned toward them and threw open his arms. They ran to him first, for a hug. Madison broke it first to rush to me for a second hug. Alex was a half-step behind her.
“How was school today?” I asked.
“Fun,” Madison said.
“Maddy stole my crayons,” Alex said.
“Did not!” Madison said.
“Did too!” Alex accused.
“Maddy,” I said, in my mother voice, which I had been working to perfect these past four years.
She lowered her gaze. “I only borrowed them…”
“Well, if you borrowed them, then it’s time to return them,” I said.
“Aw, okay…”
With that crisis resolved, I held out my hands for them and they took them. I gave Reginald an apologetic look.
“We’ll have to delay our sparring match for now.”
“Later,” he replied.
“Uncle Reggie,” Alex said. “Will you have ice cream with us?”
I looked at him. Who mentioned ice cream?
Reginald, the good natured uncle that he had become, laughed, quickly giving in, just like he always did. “Of course I will.”
The children cheered.
“You spoil them,” I said.
