Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 219

Chapter 219

Lillian’s POV

Reginald had rented out an entire store for me to try on various outfits and disguises. The kids took turns between running around the store and waiting in the chairs with Reginald outside of the changing rooms.

A stylist was helping me inside of the changing room, bringing me outfits and wigs. I was unhappy with each of them. Staring into the mirror, I didn’t think the change in hair or outfit would properly disguise me from Grayson He’d always been intuitive. He would be able to see through this.

I walked out of the changing room wearing the current attempt, which was definitely into the double digits now.

Reginald tilted his head, his eyes narrowing slightly as he took me in. The same thing happened each time before./

“This isn’t going to work,” I said.

“I suspect that as well,” he said with a sigh. “You will just have to avoid him. That’s the only way.”

“Can I do that when I will probably need the help of the royal family to track down Teacher?”

Reginald shrugged. “I’m sure you will find a way.”

He was right. I couldn’t reject the King’s request simply because I was afraid to face Grayson again. People’s lives could hang in the balance. I needed to do the best I could for those warriors I had helped trained, and for the kingdom that had given me a safe place to raise my children.

Children who were as of this moment running around the store excitedly, burning off their energy from the day, as well as the sugar from the ice cream.

I had worried when telling them about our trip west that they would have some worry about leaving their friends and their current school. But they were only excited for the new adventure.

Preparations were in the works for them, many assistants working behind the scenes to enroll them in a school in Grayson’s pack. A home had already been picked out for me on the outskirts of the Royal city. Everyone was certain that the palace would have accepted me as an ambassador and guest, but in hopes to keep my distance, and protect my children from the same dangers I had run from in the past, I insisted on taking a place away from the palace itself.

Even though we were going to a new place, I wanted my children’s lives to continue on as uninterrupted as possible. As normal as the circumstances would allow.

I bought a few new outfits from this endeavor, but returned to the palace without only one blonde wig. It would serve my purpose from a distance, as long as I didn’t get close to Grayson.

Maybe I could get through this without talking to him specifically. Or seeing him at all. Somehow.

The kids rushed into their half of our rooms to make sure the servants had properly packed all the toys they needed, while I walked into my bedroom to pack my own clothes and keepsakes. In my jewelry box, I withdrew a necklace that had once belonged to my mother. It was precious, emblazoned with the crest of the Lycan royal family. I’d been too afraid to wear it for a long time, but returning to the Lycan Kingdom gave me the courage I needed to face my past. My future.

No one truly understood the connection of my mother to the Lycans, and with my blood inconclusive, there was no evidence that I belonged. But this was a connection, confusing as it was. Even Reginald’s parents said they didn’t know why my mother had been exiled, which she must have been to not be a part of the pack anymore.

That mystery would remain unsolved for now.

Nasped on my necklace and continued packing.

With the car loaded, Reginald saw us off. He hugged each of the twins and then me.

“Stay safe,” he said. “Do your duty and come back. Do not allow distractions.”

“You don’t have to worry about that,” I said. “Nothing has changed, and I have no desire to relive the past.”

He pulled back to give me a skeptical look. He knew as well as I did that I was still in love with Grayson. But love hadn’t been enough for us, and that wasn’t any different now.
