Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 227

Chapter 227

Lillian’s POV

I narrowed my eyes ever-so-slightly in suspicion, and he laughed.

“There’s no ulterior motives here,” he said. “Beautiful ladies and beautiful flowers just go together.”

I glanced behind me, half-expecting to see Grayson-standing there, with Ben trying to make him purposefully jealous. But he wasn’t.

I closed my eyes, realizing how foolish of a thought that had been. Why would Grayson have followed me? And even if he had, why would he feel jealous? I had left him five years ago, and now he had Odette. Heart sinking, I faced Ben again.

He seemed to notice the downward tick of my mood, and gave me a sympathetic look. “It’s just us,” he said/”And it’s just a flower.”

Slowly, I reached out and accepted the flower. “Thank you.’

“It must be difficult, being back here,” he said. “With things as they are. I’m honestly surprised the Lycan Kingdom made you come.”

“It can’t be helped. I’m looking for Teacher, and I’m the best suited to find him. He’s needed to help defend the whole of werewolf kind. I’m sure he’ll help.”

Ben nodded. “I never knew the man particularly well, but he seemed talented. It’s a shame he would just vanish.”

“That’s not unlike him,” I said. “He often disappears and returns when needed. I’m hoping, wherever he is, he knows that he’s needed now.”

“Well, I, for one, can tell you that you have been needed here, and it’s nice to have you back, even if it’s only temporary. This place is going downhill faster than any of us could have imagined.”

“I’m sorry about your brother.”

Ben shrugged. “Time can be unkind. And it comes for us all. If my brother had any sense of himself left, he would be mortified with how he is. But the kingdom will survive this. With that war looming, we’d better.”
