Grayson’s POV
My wolf thrashed behind my eyes, begging for release, to cleave the flesh from the bones of everyone in the room, everyone who dared hurt Lillian. She wasn’t even our mate anymore, but my wolf raged like she was, and I felt that anger mirrored inside of me, deep down to my bones.
The only thing that held me back was seeing the gentle rise and fall of Lillian’s chest. She was unconscious but not dead. The sooner I ended this conflict, the sooner I could get her medical attention if she needed it, and the sooner she would wake up.
By now, some guards had followed the noise and stepped toward the room. I beckoned them closer. “Get in here and arrest everyone in this room. And call the court members. They will face judgement soon.”
The guards surged into the room, immediately taking those inside in custody.
Odette rushed toward me. “You can’t mean me, can you? I only came in here because I heard the sounds of fighting. Lillian was acting crazy. I thought she might kill Gamma. I begged her to stop. You have to believe me. We’re friends, aren’t we? You know I wouldn’t lie to you.”
I didn’t know what I believed, but she was in this room and Lillian was unconscious. Those were the facts.
“You will face judgment like everyone else,” I said.
I turned from her, not wanting to listen to her anymore. I suspected she was lying to me in an attempt to make Lillian look badly, just as she had done in her explanation of what happened with the tutor and Lily’s kids. I didn’t believe it then, and I still didn’t believe it.
Odette would have her chance to defend herself in court if she was truly innocent. Especially if the recording device had been working and captured all of what transpired in this room.
Stepping around Odette, I moved to Lillian and scooped her up into my arms. Holding her, I walked out of the room. I was ready to carry her to the hospital ward, but she roused only a few steps into the hallway, causing me to stop and look at her.
“What happened?” she asked, lifting a hand to her head.
“I was hoping you could tell me,” I replied.
“My father lured me out of the throne room and tried to have his guards attack me. I held them off but then… he and I fought and..” She lowered her hand to the recording device. “Is it damaged? I have to see.”
I carried her to one of the bathrooms and set her down on her feet. She rushed inside of it on her own while I waited in the hallway. After a moment, she came back out, holding the device.
“I think it got everything,” she said. “If you listen to this, you’ll hear what my father said. You’ll know for a fact that he and Odette arranged everything. They stole the flower, allowing Ronan to die, just with the intention of driving us apart.”
And it worked. I bit back the words. “We will play the recording for the whole of the court, and everyone will hear it.”
“You can’t still think Odette is innocent?” Lily asked, pain in her eyes.
“The recording will reveal the full truth,” I said. I was trying to be reasonable, but Lily was looking at me like I had betrayed her with my words. I hadn’t taken Odette’s side over hers. I was closer than ever before now to

believing Odette was lying about everything. But, given our past, I couldn’t just give into those suspicions.
dette had saved me as children. Without her, I wouldn’t be here at all. Didn’t that warrant a bit more scrutiny on her behalf? Why save my life back then just to betray me now?
“The court members, members of the Elder Council, and my parents are being assembled,” I told her. “Until they are ready, I want to take you to the hospital ward to have this bump on your head checked out.”
She touched the bump and winced. “Odette hit me with a vase.”
