Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 272

Chapter 272

Madison’s POV

We both looked harder at the pictures, like they would tell us all the answers. We stared, but the pictures didn’t reveal their secrets. There weren’t any of Grayson holding a pair of babies, which would have told us what we wanted to know.

“What do we do now?” Alex asked. “Should we ask Mom?”

“If we ask her, she’ll just lie about it,” I said.

Alex nodded and we both thought about it for a minute.

“We could ask Grayson…?” I suggested.

“That might work,” Alex decided, nodding bigger now.

It was decided then, though we couldn’t act on it right away. We had to wait until the end of the day when our lessons were over. Even then, we had to wait for Mom to be busy with something. We couldn’t chance her overhearing.

If we were going to learn the truth, then we had to speak with Grayson alone.

This didn’t happen until later in the evening, when Mom was reading a book in her room and Grayson was in his office. We sneaked out of our playroom and went to the office, tiptoeing down the stairs. At the office door, we argued over if we should knock.

“It’s polite to knock,” Alex insisted.

“Mom might hear it,” I said.

“You can come in,” called Grayson from inside. He must have heard us.

Alex and I both nearly jumped at having been caught, but then we went into the office. Grayson was sitting behind the desk. He must have been working on something, but he looked up at us curiously as we entered.

“How can I help you two?” he asked. “Is everything alright?”

“We have a question,” I said.

Alex and I looked at each other. This moment had been easy to plan but it was much more difficult to actually go through with it. What if Grayson said something mean? But no, he wouldn’t do that. I trusted him.

I took the picture that we ‘borrowed’ from the photo album and brought it to him. He accepted it at once, his eyes / softening.

“Where did you find this?” he asked.

“One of the bedrooms,” I said before I realized that maybe I shouldn’t have. Maybe we weren’t supposed to snoop quite this much.

“Are you our real Daddy?” Alex asked.

Grayson froze. We did too. For a whole minute, no one moved an inch.

Then, Grayson’s face creased like he was disappointed. I knew the answer was going to be no before he even said a word, and I hated it. I wanted him to be our Daddy almost more than anything else in the whole world.

Tears started to fill my eyes.

‘m sorry. I love your mother very much, but when we parted ways, she wasn’t pregnant,” Grayson said. “I don’t know who your real father is.”

“If you love Mommy, why did you break up?” Alex asked.

“It wasn’t because of feelings,” Grayson said. “Outside forces kept getting in the way.”

“What kind of… f-forces?” I asked.

He looked at me, and seeing my tears, placed his hand on top of my head. “It’s nothing to worry about,” he said. ” Sometimes two people, even if they care about each other a great deal, simply can’t be together. Please don’t cry.’

It was too late. My tears were already falling.
