Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 281

Chapter 281 Grayson’s POV

Now that I had this information, I didn’t know what to do with it.

“Are you going to confront Lillian?” Prime Beta asked.

Logically, without considering emotion, that would be the next step. But I knew Lillian well, and knew that she wouldn’t have kept a secret like this without good reason. That she still hadn’t told me the truth meant that that reason was still out there.

Even if I confronted her with this falsified documentation, she would still deny it. Without paternal evidence, I wouldn’t have any legs to stand on in that situation.

I didn’t think I would ever confront her outright, but before I acted at all, I needed to have infallible evidence that the children were mine.

“I need a paternity test,” I said. “But I want this done without giving away my suspicion to Lily, or traumatizing the children at all. If we could use some of their hair…”

“I will direct one of the servants to take some of the children’s hair from their brushes,” Prime Beta said. “A few strands could go unnoticed.”

“Do it,” I said.

Glancing up at Prime Beta, I could tell that he was holding back on some of his feelings on the matter. He had been my Beta for a long time. Though he’d never been the most talkative sort, and had always been loyal, occasionally his face would tense or his gaze would drop away from me. Both were signals he had an opinion he was nervous to say.

“What is it?” I asked. When still he hesitated, I said, “Speak your mind, Beta.”

Beta took a breath, then looked at me. “The existence of heirs could help you secure the throne. It could be enough to sway the council.”

He wasn’t wrong, but, “I don’t want to use the children that way,” I said.

Even if what he was saying was true, I cared more about learning that this family could be mine. I would protect them. I would never use them just to secure my position.

“I will find a way to inherit the throne without using the existence of these children,” I said. Looking down at the forged paperwork, I said, “For now, we must keep this secret. No one can know about this. No one can even suspect. Do I have your vow to keep this secret?”

“Yes,” Prime Beta said without hesitation, as loyal as ever.

“Thank you,” I said.

He nodded.

I folded up the forged document and put it into my safe, locking it inside.

“How soon can we get the paternity process started?” I asked.

“I will speak with the servants in the morning,” Prime Beta said. “As they clean in the morning, they can retrieve

the hairs, and I will personally deliver them to the lab to have them tested.”

“Good,” I said. Until then, I had to push down on the excitement and the whispers of what the future could be. I ould do nothing, dream nothing, until I knew the full truth.

The hope, however, was difficult to contain.

Lillian’s POV

I spent time with the children until it was bedtime. After tucking them in, Freturned to my room. I tried to read for a while, but soon, my eyelids grew heavy. It had been a long day, and my body and mind were both tired.

Before long, my eyes slipped closed, and I entered the darkness.

I walked through a fog, unsure where I was going. Had I taken a wrong turn? I felt like I was lost, but I wasn’t overly upset about it. Despite having never been to a place like this, I carried an odd sense of familiarity. It didnt make sense, and yet…

“There you are,” said a familiar male voice.

After a few more steps, the fog broke and I stepped into a garden surrounded by hydrangea bushes. Bright flowers were underfoot, so I had to move carefully stepping on garden stones.

Soon, I came upon a wooden bench surrounded by flowers. Sitting there, was Teacher. He smiled at me and gently patted the seat beside him.

I moved closer and sat down. For a moment, we stared forward at the flowers and the bushes. There didn’t seem to be much beyond, the fog ever-looming.
