Chapter 287
Madison’s POV
We were at dinner, sitting not at the long table in the dining room, but around the smaller four-person one in a corner of the kitchen. Grayson seemed to like this one when it was just us eating together, and I liked it too. A big long table felt scary sometimes. Even if we were all seated together, there was so much empty space. Who was it for?
This was much better. I sat beside Alex, and across from Mom. Grayson was on my other side.
We’d barely sat down with our salads, when I noticed Mom and Grayson making eyes at each other. Had something happened between the two of them today? Ug, Alex and I missed so much while we were studying!
I looked at Alex, and he looked at me. I could tell he was thinking the same thing.
Mom and Grayson were giving each other long looks, and Mom seemed to be laughing at everything Grayson said, even stuff that didn’t seem very funny. Was this… flirting? Were they flirting?
Good. Good. This was so good. If Alex and I could get them to openly like each other, than maybe they would fall in love for real. The mansion was as nice as the Lycan palace, and though I missed Uncle Reggie and the servants at the palace, they could come visit probably. I’d miss Grayson much more if we were to leave. We couldn’t leave!
“Grayson,” I said, already forming a plan in my head. Hopefully, Alex would see what I was trying to do and go along with it. “Mommy sure looks pretty today, don’t you think?”
Mom looked at me. “Thank you, honey, but Grayson doesn’t have to say
“You’re right, Maddie,” Grayson said. “She looks beautiful today. Though, really, she looks beautiful every day.’
Mom blushed a little, and immediately brought up a hand to straighten her hair.
“And Grayson sure looks handsome, don’t you think, Mom?” Alex added.
I grinned at him, proud of my brother. He had caught on quickly enough.
Mom looked between the pair of us. “I see what you two are up to,” she said.
“We aren’t up to anything,” I lied.
Mom gave me a look that told me she didn’t believe me.
“You do think so, don’t you?” Alex pressed.
Grayson pretended not to be listening, waiting for an answer, but we could all see how he was pushing around his salad with his fork, making no moves to actually eat it.
“I mean… yes. Of course. Grayson is always very handsome,” Mom said.
Grayson smiled softly.
