Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 294

Chapter 294

Lilian’s POV

“You looking to start something, wolfy?” the Bear Ambassador asked.

He did remove his arm from around Josephine’s shoulders, though. I rushed in and grabbing her arm/pulled her a little bit away from the man, moving behind Grayson, using him as a shield.

Despite our differences, Josie folded into me, her shoulders sagging in clear relief. His hands clutched both of my arms, and she didn’t let go, not for anything. Her fingers were digging into skin, likely leaving fingertip bruises. I didn’t say a word, just happy she was here and away from this person.

“That’s my new girlfriend, didn’t you hear?” the bear said.

Grayson looked at the Queen. “What did you promise?”

“A negotiation,” the Queen said. “Which has yet to begin.”

“You don’t want to fight with us,” the bear said.

“I’m sure we can settle in, celebrate your arrival, and take things slower than this,” the Queen said. “After all, aren’t we both here for the sake of peace? You haven’t even told us your name yet.” Tighter, she added, “Nor have you asked for my daughter’s.”

“We can talk, sure,” the bear said. “What about your lapdog here?”

Grayson started to growl. Some of the Bears stepped forward.

Everyone in the room tensed. It was totally silent. We could have heard a pin drop.

I tensed too, ready to fight for Grayson if needed. He wasn’t going to be hurt on my watch, that was for sure. I didn’t care how powerful bears were supposed to me.

He was my mate-

No. That wasn’t right. Not anymore. But he was still important to me, and that was enough.

The bear guards looked around, like they were sizing up the room. The Ambassador did too, but then laughed.

“Friends. There’s no need for such hostilities. Let’s celebrate the potential we have ignited here simply by being in the room together,” the Bear Ambassador said. “Please, call me Charles. Ambassador Charles.”

One of the guards barely held in a laugh. “Chuck’s got a big head now,” he whispered to one of the others, perhaps not realizing just how good wolf hearing truly was.”

For now, everyone ignored this, though I was certain that Grayson had heard as well as I had. Instead, we focused on Charles.

“Welcome, Charles,” the Queen said. “This is Crown Prince Grayson. And my daughter, behind him, Princess Josephine.”

Charles leered at Josephine and I shifted slightly, hiding her behind my body. That didn’t stop him staring, and he looked at me with the same leering expression he gave Josie.

Grayson’s growl deepened.

“Ease up, wolfy. We’re all friends here, aren’t we?” Charles asked.

“We are,” the Queen answered for him, and gestured for him to move forward. “Everyone. Celebrate. Enjoy the

anquet.” She smiled at the guests. “You, especially.”

“Hey, where’s the booze?” one of the bears called out. Charles, laughing, moved to follow his… guards.

The minute they were otherwise occupied, Grayson turned toward the Queen.

“Why would you invite them here?” Grayson demanded.

“I’m doing what others cannot and trying to end this war,” the Queen snapped back.

“You’re overconfident,” Grayson replied. “You are acting beyond your power and authority. What about the alliance with the Lycan Kingdom? Do they know about your plans?”

“They will be grateful when I stop the war.”

“That means no.”

The Queen huffed as she lifted her chin. “I don’t need to answer to you, Grayson. Only the King is above me, and he has granted me the authority to act here.”

I looked at the King, just as Grayson did. The man was sitting on the throne with a vacant stare. Even bringing him out here for the bears to see was a weakness. They now knew the power of this kingdom was divided. The Queen only made them weaker by inviting the bears here.

“Enjoy this banquet,” the Queen said. “We need this alliance to happen, and I would prefer it if my daughter was not sacrificed in the process.”

“You promised him her,” Grayson said.
