Prime Beta’s POV

I watched the car rush away, just in time, as the Queen and her guard poured out of the mansion to surround me.

“Who was that?” the Queen demanded. “Did you send Lillian out? Don’t you know that’s treason?”

“I’m not sure where she went,” I said.

“Bullshit,” the Queen snapped. “You both are trying to interfere with my plans. “It won’t work, and even the attempt is something I could have you killed for.”

“I have done nothing,” I said, defiant. “But Lillian is attempting to save our prince from the Bear Clan. Is the betrayal of the Crown Prince not also treasonous? Perhaps more so?”

Some of the guards glanced at each other. Did they truly have no idea why they were here? Good. Allow them to learn and take their sides.

The Queen thought she might gain popularity for this. But I doubted that would last once people realized what she had done to their prince.

“You shut your mouth,” she snapped as she nervously glanced around. She must have seen it too in the eyes of her guards. How quickly the powers could shift. How easily she could lose everything. She swallowed hard. “Seize him,” she demanded, but no one made a move to stop me.

They just watched while I walked away.

The Queen’s POV

I was losing control of this situation too soon for my liking. I should have been able to hold onto my power, to gain some now that Grayson was gone. Instead, it seemed the opposite was true. My own guard was disobeying me, watching a traitor escape.

“You will all pay for this,” I snapped and stormed back into the house. I moved quickly. Not running, but walking as fast as I could while attempting to maintain a cool composure. I didn’t want to alert anyone to my panic, and I would need my wits about me for what was about to happen.

I had hoped to wait a bit before making this move, but for fear of what could be exposed, I had to push forward my plans and act on things now.

The King, my husband, was being spoon fed his dinner at the dining room table. He stared at the servant assisting him blankly, not truly seeing her.
