Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 301

Chapter 301

Grayson’s POV

Time was slightly confusing from the floor of the backseat of the SUV taking me to the Bear Kingdom, but I felt I at least had a sense of how long it’s been, and how far I had been taken from my home. Yet I wasn’t truly certain just how close we were to the border between the Bear Clan and Lycan Kingdom until I noticed how excited and relaxed my bear shifter captors were becoming.

They practically buzzed in their seats, laughing more, looking out the window.

I’d been pretending to be unconscious, hoping they might pull over and I’d have a chance to escape. But they hadn’t stopped, and now it seemed like they never would, at least not until we crossed the bordet.

I was running out of time. I had to get out of this car and gain my freedom before the car crossed the border, or I would lose my chance entirely. With the border so close, there would be bear shifters here, but until we crossed the border, there would also be the front line of werewolves. If I could break free of the bears and get to the werewolves, I would be safe.

But first, I had to get out of this SUV.

My strength still hadn’t returned to me, and I was even more suspicious now that the collar around my neck was somehow magically constraining my strength. Any other time or place, I would be able to bust out of these shackles and free myself from this situation with ease.

Trying to be subtle, I continued to twist and pull at the shackles on my wrists. I wasn’t getting anywhere though, at least while not drawing any attention to myself.

The time for subtly was over. I braced myself for what I was about to do. Then, I struck. Two of the bear shifters were in the row of seats with me. I head-butted one, then growled and kicked at the other.

“What the hell?!”

“Someone grab him!”

“He broke my nose!”

The car swerved, and I fell into one of the captors hard, knocking his head against the door. He went unconscious. Turning my back to the door beside him, I tried to reach for the handle.

“Oh, no you don’t!” said one of the bears, the one whose nose I broke. He reached out, grabbed me, and slammed me down on the seat.

“Don’t let him get away!”

“I got him.”

“Should I pull over?”

“No need.”

They were underestimating me. Even without the full range of my strength, I was still a proud Alpha wolf. I wasn’t going to be easily constrained.

Roaring, I pushed up against his hand, throwing all of my weight into one final attack, pushing him against the door so hard that the window shattered. Glass tore at the man’s face, disorientating him.

Seeing my opening – the broken window, so close to freedom – I pushed through, trying to get out the window.

One of the bear shifters from the front seat crawled into the middle seat and grabbed me by my shackles. I growled, trying to break free of those constraints, but I was already tired from the exertion of my escape. After being drugged, and with the collar, I just didn’t have enough strength left to free myself.

“How can that asshole be so strong? Is the collar working?” asked the driver.

“It’s working. He’s just a tough bastard,” said the bear with the broken nose.

“He’s not going anywhere now,” said the one holding my shackles, pinning me to the seat.

“Knock him out,” called Chuck. “We can’t take any chances.”

I struggled but it was no use. A fist came down to the back of my head, and everything went black again.

Lillian’s POV

“What’s that noise?” I asked.

The driver, Pete, cursed. “We have a flat tire.”

“What? No, we don’t have time.”

“There’s a spare in the trunk,” Pete said. He pulled the car to the side of the road and killed the engine. We both hopped out. He went to the trunk.

I started pacing. Unsure what to do with my hands, I stuffed them into my pockets. In one of my pockets was the Queen’s hidden necklace. The metal was cool and struck more fear and anxiety in my heart.

I couldn’t just stay here.
