Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 314

Chapter 314

Lillian’s POV

“I will not be taken prisoner,” Grayson declared. “Not by you. Not by anyone.”

“Maybe you should think of your girlfriend, then,” said one of the guards. Their eyes turned to me, piercing through me through the windshield.

“Touch her and I’ll kill you,” Grayson growled.

“You’d have to step over the border to do that.”

Grayson stared down the guards. At the same time, a third guard appeared behind the other two. This one was strong, partially shifted, and holding a rock that was big enough to be called a boulder. He lifted it over his head his gaze right on the car.

“Lily!” Grayson called.

I opened the door and hopped out of the car just as the boulder came crashing down. It smashed onto the hood of the car, flattening it, making the engine hiss. The windshield shattered, bowing inward as the boulder rolled right into the space where I had been sitting.

Grayson rushed around the car to my side. When I’d leapt, I fell down onto the ground. He grabbed me by the elbow now and helped me to my feet.

“Shift,” he whispered in my ear. “Follow me.”

I nodded.

He shifted first, into his massive Alpha wolf. Following his lead, I too shifted, and then took off after him as he dashed into the forest.

The guards shifted and tried to follow. For a while they were able to keep up, staying inside the border while we remained outside. But the guards were not as quick as Grayson, and not even as quick as me, though since speaking with Teacher, I was coming to understand that my abilities were not as typical and ordinary as I had once

believed.

Eventually, we entirely outran them, and the guards stopped to curse at us, giving up one by one, with the last collapsing from exhaustion.

Grayson and I continued to rush forward. I trusted his judgement, he would be able to sense if anyone was nearby, so when he finally ducked over the border, I followed him. We ran a bit farther, deeper into the kingdom, all the way to the edge of the city, then Grayson shifted back into human form. I did as well.

He stood stoically for a moment, but I could see the way his chest heaved. He was trying to have it but he was struggling for breath. His exhaustion must have been catching up to him again. As I suspected, he was pushing himself too hard.

“We need to make it back to the mansion,” Grayson said, when he breathed normally again. “But we can’t get closer in wolf form without being noticed.”

We were both popular figures. I didn’t know how to say that we’d likely be noticed anyway. Prince Grayson especially would have a hard time going unnoticed.

It was still light outside, too.

“Should we wait for night?” I asked.

we have to chance it,” he said. “We can’t risk being found here. Once we get to the mansion, we will be safe.”

He started to lead me down the sidewalk. Though it was midday, most people were working or in school, so there weren’t many people out and about. Those that were, seemed to not give us any mind, more concerned about their own tasks.

Until…

At the end of the sidewalk, walking toward us was a guard on patrol. He wore the same uniform as one of the palace guards, the Queen’s own, most likely.

Grayson abruptly turned into an alley, tugging me behind him. The alley was narrow, there wasn’t much room, and the other end of it was blocked off. He pulled me into his arms, pressing me up against the wall. He shielded me with his body, and with my nose so near his chest, I breathed in his pine scent. I closed my eyes to keep myself from making a sound.

The steady, heavy footfalls of the guard came closer.

I held my breath. Grayson tensed, his hand on the wall forming a fist.
