Chapter 28
Dora let out a sigh of relief, too. She hurried forward, using a small knife she had prepared long ago to carefully cut open the glow beetle’s body.
She originally intended to extract the glands inside the glow beetle, but she found a small, bean–sized glowing crystal core next to the glands.
The crystal core felt warm and smooth in her hand. Its energy was thin, but it was definitely there. It was a crystal core that hadn’t reached Level–1 yet.
Beside her, Clive, Elmer, and Lioren all looked surprised. The chance of getting a crystal core from an alien beast wasn’t high, let alone from this kind of low–level glow beetle.
In their original plan, they hadn’t expected to get crystal cores from these two types of low–level alien beasts. They had only wanted to obtain materials. This was truly an unexpected gain.
This kind of low–level crystal core could also serve as an energy source for an energy shield or be sold for starcoins. Dora happily stored the small crystal core and the glow beetle glands in her Spatial Realm.
The group continued forward. When they encountered a target, Elmer handled luring and distracting. Clive delivered the finishing blow, and Dora swiftly cleaned up the battlefield, collecting the valuable parts.
Whenever Dora approached plants or rocks that looked harmless, Lioren would use his paws or a warning rumble to alert her to avoid hidden, small venomous insects or dangerous alien plants.
In only one morning, they had hunted five glow beetles and two Level–2 earth lizards that had wandered into the area.
They had also harvested three Level–1 crystal cores, one Level–2 grystal core, two low–level crystal cores, and a number of materials. They even found several pieces of decent–quality soft crystal ore raw stone in a rock crevice.
Their haul was plentiful, and no one was injured, except for the numbness on Elmer’s face that soon faded.
Dora tallied the spoils of war in her Spatial Realm, mentally estimating the quantities. A hint of satisfaction crept onto her
face.
At this rate, gathering enough materials for the first batch of basic construction supplies no longer seemed impossible,
“Let’s take a break and recharge our energy. Then we’ll go see if there’s any ironwood around,” Dora suggested finding a relatively clean spot sheltered from the wind.
No one objected. Clive leaned against a rock and closed his eyes to rest, but he remained alert. Dora brought out water and handed it to Clive and Elmer, then gulped down several mouthfuls before giving a few sips to Lioren.
Clive’s, Elmer’s, and Lioren’s eyes all lit up again. They thought, ‘How is the water Dora brought out so sweet and refreshing. and so full of crystal energy?
Dora gave a mysterious smile and said with a touch of pride, “It’s a secret. Don’t ask.”
She also took out the nutrient drinks Elmer had prepared and handed one to each of them. She drank one herself and squeezed another into her palm, holding it up to Lioren’s mouth as he lay in her arms.
Lioren gave the bland paste a look of disgust. But in the end, under Dora’s insistent gaze, he stuck out his pink tongue and licked it clean bit by bit.
After finishing, Lioren even unconsciously rubbed his head against Dora’s palm and then immediately stiffened. He quickly

erked his head away and pretended nothing had happened. Only the tips of his ears flushed a suspicious red.
Dora couldn’t help but smile as she gently scratched his chin. Lioren’s body went rigid, but he didn’t pull away. A comfortable rumble came from his throat.
After a short rest, the group continued deeper in search of materials with renewed energy.
Dora walked in the middle. Clive was to her front left, his figure straight and tall, his aura restrained but still exuding pressure.
Elmer stayed close to her right side, his eyes vigilantly scanning the surroundings. Lioren moved silently at the very front, his small figure weaving nimbly through the wasteland, his amber eyes like the most precise radar.
Clive whispered, “Keep formation. Move forward slowly.”
They followed the low–risk route recommended by the system. Along the way, they encountered a few lone Rank–2 sandscale beasts and a flock of Rank–2 mutated vultures circling in the sky, waiting for a chance to scavenge carrion.
Clive didn’t take the initiative to attack. When a sandscale beast tried to approach, he simply swept an icy glance its way. The sandscale beast felt the pressure and screeched as it fled.
Lioren darted past like a phantom, using wind blades to cleanly take down two mutated vultures that had gotten too close. His movements were neat and precise.
He deftly pried out the crystal cores with his claws, carried them back in his mouth, and dropped them at Dora’s feet.
“Nicely done, fuzzball, Dora praised Lioren generously, bending down to pick up the crystal cores still stained with traces of blood.
The Level–2 crystal cores were noticeably bigger than the Level–Yones, and their color was purer. Lioren held his head high, shook off his paws, and jumped onto a rock to continue keeping watch.
Elmer watched Lioren’s actions with some envy. But Elmer still stuck to the original plan and stayed close to Dora’s side, keeping an eye on the sky and the shadows of the surrounding rock walls.
The team had already developed a basic rapport. They gathered useful materials and avoided useless alien beasts and alien plants when they could. They hunted the ones they couldn’t avoid and took the crystal cores from those that had them.
For those without crystal cores, Dora stored them in her Spatial Realm. She could list them on the Universal Spaceume Barter System later. Absolutely nothing went to waste.
After walking for about half an hour, they arrived at a spot marked on the map as “Abandoned Mine Fit Edge“.
The terrain here was lower, scattered with excavated ore waste. The smell of metal and radiation hung stronger in the air.
Dora gave her usual command. “Spread out and search. Watch your footing and the cracks in the rock walls. Elmer, you’re with me. Clive, Lioren, you each take a direction. Keep within communication range.”
Clive’s figure flickered and silently melted into the shadow of a large boulder. Lioren bounded a few times and disappeared. behind the scattered rocks on the other side of the mine pit. Dora and Elmer began carefully rummaging through the piles of waste rock.
Elmer was very meticulous. From time to time, he used his gloved hands to push aside loose stones and probed the crevices
with a metal rod.
