r 273 He’s a Fraud
“No matter what happens, don’t sell. Remember, no matter what–don’t sell,” Seraphina warned Rowan sternly.
“Alright,” Rowan nodded firmly.
But in the following days, Rowan couldn’t take his eyes off the stock charts. All the stocks were plummeting, and the two he held had hit their daily limit for losses three times in a row.
As he watched the value of his investments shrink by the day, Rowan’s composure shattered. With trembling hands, he called Seraphina again. “Seraphina, it’s hit the limit again. If this keeps up, we’ll run out of money. The investors are starting to panic, and I can’t hold them off much longer,” he said, his voice shaking.
If the investors revolted, Rowan had no idea how he’d manage the fallout.
“Don’t panic. The stocks will recover. Tell them that the two stocks you picked will rise again. This crash is just a symptom of the broader market downturn. Once this rough patch is over, those stocks will soar.”
“Really?” Rowan asked, his voice riddled with doubt.
“If you’re panicking over a little fluctuation, what’ll happen when you make it to Dow Drive? Are you planning to crawl out of there on your hands and knees? It’s just a hundred million–why panic? Remember who you are. You’re the Stock Whiz. Nobody knows the market better than you,” Seraphina said, her tone both seductive and persuasive.
“You’re right. I am the Stock Whiz,” Rowan said, forcing confidence back into his voice.
“That’s the spirit. Keep that confidence.”
Rowan’s renewed bravado worked. For the time being, the investors calmed down. However, some remained suspicious. Taking advantage of Rowan’s arrogance, a few managed to get him drunk and coax the names of the two stocks out of him.
At first, only a few people knew the information. But soon, the names of the stocks spread like wildfire among the investors. All eyes were on those two stocks. But no miracle occurred. After three consecutive days of hitting the loss limit, the stocks continued to nosedive, even as others in the market began recovering. The two stocks sank into worthless pits, leaving investors furious.
Every single investor stormed Rowan’s office, surrounding him.
“Give us back our money!”

“Pay us back!”
Rowan, pale as a ghost, stammered, “Trust me. This is only temporary. The stocks will rebound soon, and everyone will profit.”
The middle–aged man who had invested earlier was red with rage. “How much longer are you planning to lie to us?”
“You have to believe me! They will rise again,” Rowan pleaded desperately, but his words fell on deaf ears.
He had said the same thing too many times, and no one believed him anymore.
“Then tell us when will they recover?”
–
“Next month. Next month, for sure!” Rowan blurted, cornered, and flustered.
No sooner had he spoken than someone received breaking news. The person’s face turned ashen as they pointed a trembling finger at Rowan and shouted, “He’s lying! Both companies just filed for bankruptcy! Our money is gone–completely gone!”
The words hit the crowd like a thunderclap, leaving everyone dazed. Their anger boiled over, drowning out all reason.
“Beat this fraud to death!” someone shouted from within the crowd.
As if on cue, the mob surged forward, breaking past the two security guards and dragging Rowan out.
“Don’t hit me! Please, don’t! I didn’t mean to deceive anyone!” Rowan screamed, his voice frantic.
But his cries were drowned in the sea of enraged shouts. No one listened. No one cared.
Twenty minutes later, Rowan lay bloodied on the ground, his face unrecognizable and his body battered and bruised. He felt like he’d been run over by a truck, his pain so overwhelming that he couldn’t even move.
