276 Manipulating Seraphina
In his office, Oberon stared at the plunging stock prices of the Whitewood Group, the veins on his temples throbbing visibly.
“Mr. Whitewood, the stock has hit its daily loss limit,” a staff member reported nervously.
Suppressing his anger, Oberon asked, “What’s the status of the investigation?”
The staff member explained, “Mr. Rowan Kennedy scammed the investors out of 100 million and used it for stock trading. The two stocks he invested in have completely tanked, leading to heavy losses. Now, the investors are demanding their money back, but he’s unable to pay. That’s why he came up with this ridiculous scheme.”
“Hmph!” Oberon sneered. It wasn’t ridiculous at all. If he were truly foolish, he would’ve blamed his family’s empire instead of the Whitewood Group. He was treating the Whitewoods like fools.
He leaned forward, his tone sharp. “Tell the team to clarify publicly that this has nothing to do with the Whitewood Group. If they have evidence, they can take it to court. Also, release a statement online immediately. Stop this nonsense from spreading further.”
When Oberon returned home that evening, he found his wife and adopted daughter chatting happily. His simmering anger boiled over.
“How can you two still be laughing at this time?!”
Startled by his sudden outburst, the mother and daughter froze.
“What’s wrong, dear?” Chloe asked softly, trying to calm him.
“What’s wrong?” Oberon glared at her coldly. “Why don’t you ask your nephew what he’s been up to? Is your family so determined to ruin ours that they won’t stop until we’re finished?”
Chloe felt a mix of shame and frustration at his harsh words but dared not argue. The Kennedy Family still relied on the Whitewood Family’s support. As a Kennedy, she had to think about her family’s interests.
“Whoever angered you, I’ll teach them a lesson immediately,” she said, trying to placate him.
Oberon scoffed and stormed upstairs.
Chloe picked up her phone and started investigating. When she finally understood the situation, her brows furrowed deeply. Now she knew why Oberon was so furious.
In the
past, Oberon had cleaned up after the Kennedy Family’s younger generation, but those were minor issues. This time, Rowan had shaken the foundation of the Whitewood Group, and Oberon saw it as an attack on his lifeblood.
Chloe was at a loss for what to do, her face full of worry, when she spotted Seraphina walking through the door. Her eyes lit up, and she quickly approached her daughter. “Seraphina, you’re back,” she said warmly.
“Mm,” Seraphina replied indifferently.
Chloe’s expression tightened in frustration at her cold demeanor. No matter what she did- whether she ignored Seraphina or tried to show care–this girl always acted like an ungrateful brat. It was infuriating.
“Seraphina, I want to ask you for a favor. Will you help me?” Chloe asked with a gentle smile.
“What is it?”
“I need you to tell your father that you’ve been working with Rowan on the stock market and that you’re the real Stock Whiz. Rowan only followed your advice.”
“But I don’t trade stocks,” Seraphina said flatly.
“You do it secretly,” Chloe insisted.
“Why would I say that?” Seraphina asked, her innocent eyes blinking up at her.
Chloe took her hand and said softly, “You’ve seen it yourself. Your father always favors Aidan, always pushing for him to inherit the company. But you’re his real child. If anyone’s going to inherit the company, it should be you, not some adopted son.
“If you can make a name for yourself and build up enough influence, you’ll have the leverage to compete with Aidan. You can change your father’s mind. I’m doing this for your sake.”
