Evelyn, you little troublemaker!

Just moments ago, she had spoken with unwavering confidence, assuring her that her uncle would be tied up in Bloomington with business matters and wouldn’t have the time to drop by.
And yet, less than half an hour later, there he was, standing right before her.
Seraphina felt her chest tighten with regret. Her own words were coming back to haunt her.
She looked up at him, her lips twitching into a strained smile that could barely mask her discomfort–one that looked more like a grimace than anything cheerful. “Mr. Jason, you’re here. Did you come all this way just to watch our family fall apart?”
Jason didn’t immediately respond. Instead, he walked over to the sofa with an air of unhurried authority, settling himself down. He crossed one leg over the other, leaning back with ease. His dark eyes, half–lidded and faintly amused, swept over her as if he had all the time in the world.
Chloe shot Seraphina a glare sharp enough to cut glass. “Seraphina! What kind of attitude is that? Mr. Drakon is here to help us. Isn’t that right, Mr. Drakon?”
Jason turned his head slightly, his gaze falling lazily on Chloe. “That’s correct,” he said evenly. “I’m here to assist–with the acquisition of the Whitewood Group.”
Seraphina exhaled deeply, almost as if she’d been holding her breath.
Chloe, however, froze. Her eyes widened in disbelief. “What… what is that supposed to mean?”
Jason’s lips curved into a faint, knowing smile. “It means your comprehension level seems to need improvement.”
Aidan shot to his feet, his face flushed with anger. “We’re not finished yet! Our family isn’t crumbling, and you think you can just come in and take over? Who do you think you are?”
Jason’s expression didn’t waver. He cast a fleeting glance at Aidan as if weighing whether the outburst deserved acknowledgment. After a brief pause, he decided it didn’t. Engaging with someone so clueless would only be a waste of his energy.
“Within six months, the Whitewood Group will be forced to announce bankruptcy and undergo restructuring, Jason said, his voice cool and precise. “If you were smart, you’d sell now. There might still be someone willing to take it off your hands. But if you wait until it completely collapses, it’ll be worth nothing.”
The room descended into an uneasy silence. The tension hung heavy in the air as the members of the Whitewood Family processed the brutal honesty of his words. Chloe’s face darkened, her composure slipping further with each passing second.
Finally, Aidan pointed to the door, his voice trembling with fury, “Get out! Now!”
Seraphina rose to her feet, stepping in quickly before things could spiral further. She grabbed the lapel of Jason’s suit jacket and yanked it roughly. The force of the motion caused a pair of buttons to pop loose, landing with soft, metallic clicks on the floor.

Her eyes dropped to the open collar of his shirt, where the crisp fabric parted just enough to reveal a sliver of skin. Her gaze darted back up, locking with his. His dark eyes gleamed, a trace of mischief dancing in their depths, and the corner of his mouth twitched as though suppressing a smirk.
“Get up,” she muttered, flustered. “And… just leave already.
Jason stood as well, allowing Seraphina to tug him along. He followed her at a leisurely pace, matching her step by step. When they reached the door, she glanced back quickly, ensuring no one was watching, before releasing her grip on his jacket.
I’m really sorry,” she murmured, her tone laced with embarrassment. Her eyes flicked to his shirt, where the missing buttons left an untidy gap. “I’ll pay you back for… for the shirt.”
Jason’s response was immediate and uncomplicated. “Alright.”
Seraphina froze, her brows knitting together as she processed his easy agreement. She hadn’t expected him to accept so readily, and it left her momentarily at a loss.
Noting the flicker of surprise on her face, Jason reached out and gently flicked her forehead with the pad of his finger. His expression was serious, but the light in his eyes betrayed his amusement. “Don’t forget,” he said, the words carrying a subtle weight despite their simplicity.
She nodded quickly, inwardly resolving to transfer the money to him as soon as possible.
Jason tilted his head slightly, studying her with a mix of curiosity and mild concern. “Are you sure you don’t need my help?”
The question hung in the air, charged with quiet sincerity. The moment he’d stepped off the plane, he’d heard whispers about the Whitewood Group’s precarious situation.
He had anticipated that Seraphina might be anxious or even desperate. What he hadn’t expected was for her to be hurling blame at him behind his back, calling him a scumbag as if he were the root of her troubles.
Her voice was steady as she replied, “I don’t need it.”
Jason’s gaze lingered on her for a moment, noting the clarity and determination in her eyes. It wasn’t the response he’d imagined, but it was unmistakably her.
“Alright,” he said finally, the faintest trace of a smile curving his lips.
There was something about her–something that became more confounding and intriguing with each passing day. She was an enigma he found himself increasingly drawn to, no matter how many walls she put
“You should leave,” Seraphina said softly but firmly, her tone carrying an unmistakable finality. Her gaze flickered, and for a moment, her calm facade faltered. “No matter what happens to the family, you shouldn’t help.”
There was an unspoken addition to her words, a shadow of bitterness lingering beneath the surface.
If possible, you could even step on them.
Though she left it unsaid, Jason caught the underlying sentiment clearly. He didn’t respond, his silence
