Evie’s pov
What had I ever done to deserve this kind of fate? How cruel can fate be?
I bite my tongue until I could feel the familiar taste of blood and let Kimberly drag me out of my room and down the hall. She’s humming so happily as if she isn’t leading me to my own heartbreak and all I can do is fight back tears as I drop my gaze to the floor.
My legs move but they feel disconnected from me and myy heart beats but it feels like I am slowly dying.
We enter her room and I inwardly wince knowing that I would have to clean up the mess before Ryan gets here. Dresses sprawled over the bed. Makeup scattered across the floor. Perfumes open and fill the room with clashing scents that make me nauseous. A mess.
She releases my arm and gestures dramatically to the chaos.
“Come on then,” she chirps. “Start with my hair.”
She leads me to her chair by her vanity and plops down with a faint happy sigh. Looking at her reflection through the mirror, my trembling hands reach for the brush. I try to steady myself but the bristles shake
anyway.
She notices and the smirk that has painted her face since she entered my room grows. Kimberly flips her golden hair over her shoulder, watching me through the mirror as she clicks her tongue. “I want pretty curls. The most luscious. I want Ryan to be able to run his fingers through them,” she sighs and her eyes turn dreamy before a giggle slips out. “It’s gonna be so messy when we’re done.”
Her eyes then narrow into slits. “I need you to make the curls look really really pretty. Do you understand?
My eyes rip from hers and I look down at her hair before nodding. “Yes.”
U
Say yes Luna,” she suddenly demands and my breath catches. My eyes flicker up to catch her her smug expression, the slight tilt of her chin…. the way she says Luna as if she’s already wearing the crown. As if she hasn’t stolen every piece of my world and is now demanding I bow at her feet for it.
“Say it,” she repeats, her tone softer now but far more venomous. “Yes, Luna.”
My breath trembles out of me as humiliation burns through my veins like fire. My wolf less blood, my weak heart, my useless body……it all seems to mock me as I stand there frozen behind her. Weak. That’s what I am. Who I am.
Kimberly raises a brow, as impatience swirls in her eyes. “If you can’t even show basic respect, Evie…. how do you expect to survive in this pack?”
A threat. Always a damn threat.

I close my eyes for half a heartbeat, just enough to swallow the scream clawing up my throat. Just

enough to keep breathing. Just enough to obey. Because if I didn’t……I don’t want to find out the
consequences.
“Yes……Luna,” I whisper.
The words taste like bitter coal on my tongue. Like defeat. Like I have just betrayed myself. Kimberly beams as if I just handed her a crown and my heart clenches. “There we go,” she says, her voice sounding pleased. “See how much better everything is when you accept your place?”
My vision blurs with unshed tears I try to keep at bay but I force my trembling hands to continue curling her hair. Strand after strand, her golden locks fall into perfect loops………while I fall apart inside.
She watches me in the mirror, drinking in everything. Every tight swallow, every tiny crack in my expression, she drinks it all and savors it.
She wants me to crumble.
She wants me broken, silent, obedient.
But if there is one thing I have learned living in this house, it is that tears only feed her cruelty. So I blink them away before they fall, refusing to give her something more she can be triumphant about.
“Higher,” she snaps when I try to pull her hair into a soft curl. “You’re messing it up.”
“Sorry,” 1 whisper, my throat feeling sore from holding back my cries.
She smirks. ” Aren’t you always sorry? You just can’t do anything right, can you?” her tone mocks me the same as her words do.
I swallow the ache forming in my throat and keep working. Strand after strand. Curl after curl. My fingers go numb and I find myself mentally slipping away to survive the moment. But Kimberly doesn’t allow even that small mercy. No. She needs to break me more inwardly.
“So,” she says brightly. ” Do you think he’ll kiss me first? Or just pin me down and mark me right away? He does look like one of those guys who would rather ravish.”
My hands freeze mid–air. Kimberly catches the pause and lets out a delighted laugh. “Don’t look so sad Evie, you will get to experience this too one day. I’m sure the moon goddess assigned you an omega. If that’s even possible, seeing as you don’t even have a wolf,” she snorts, taunting me with her words.
My fingers tighten around the curling wand before I force myself to release it, I won’t burn her. I won’t give her the satisfaction of accusing me of anything. I won’t let her win even more.
“Careful,” she purrs as her eyes catch the way my jaw clenches. “Wouldn’t want to ruin my big night because you can’t control your….emotions.”
I swallow hard. “Yes, Kimberly.”
She smirks before ‘correcting‘ me. “Luna.”
I bite my tongue so hard I taste the metallic tang of blood again. “Yes….Luna.” The word scrapes through

my throat like sandpaper.
