Evie’s pov

The force of the slap made Ryan’s head twist slightly to the side and the air in the room grew thick. I could somehow still hear the crack of my palm against his skin echo on the walls.

Ryan is still. Very still.

My chest heaved, my hand stinging as rage stormed inside me. Then his head turns slowly and his eyes meet mine. It’s dead of the fire that once swarmed his gaze. Now replaced by confusion and hurt.

“Why would you do that!” I snapped into the air as I bent over to take the discarded shirt on the floor. Now I reek of him and I am sure if I stepped foot back on the field, everyone would know.

“Why did you fuck me?!” I said furiously as I throw the shirt over my head and glare at him. He’s still stiffened from the slap but my words seem to awaken him.

His eyes narrowed and a flicker of irritation sparks in them. “Don’t act like you didn’t want it too Evie. I didn’t force you.”

And that’s why I was so damn angry. Because he didn’t force me and I easily gave into him. I was a joke. A fucking joke.

I pointed an accusing finger at him. “You have a mate! A Luna-

“You’re my fucking mate!” He snarled and cut into my words. “I don’t care about Kimberly or what anyone else has to say! I want my mate back-

“No!” I hissed, my eyes growing angry as a storm of fury ravages through me. “You don’t get to want me back after you discarded me that night! You don’t get to get me back after everything! Especially after you sent the entire warrior pack to kill me!”

His eyes widened and he staggered a step or two, clearly shocked by the reveal. But I don’t stop. ” You just couldn’t let me leave peacefully, no. You wanted me dead. Like our friendship for years meant nothing to you! Like I meant nothing to you!” I yelled now, but my voice cracked a bit from the emotions.

I cuss myself inwardly for being teary. So teary that my vision blurs. I lift my hand to furiously wipe the tears away, hating that it dares to show weakness.

For years, I tried to bury these memories so they won’t ever hurt me anymore. But now standing in front of the guy who rejected me and sent wolves to kill me…everything just came back all at once.

My finger is shaky as I point it at his chest. “I was fine with you choosing her,” I lied. ” Everyone knew you’d choose her,” my voice broke. “But to send your warriors after me to murder me like I was nothing after you took my virginity that night-

My voice shattered and I swallowed the lump forming in my throat. Ryan’s face drains of color as if I had just told him the scariest story to exist.

His chest was rising and falling slower now, as though he had forgotten how to breathe. “Evie – I don’t remember-

“Of course you don’t remember!” I snapped in the air. “But even if you did, you’d still not give a damn!”

He stepped forward and my breath snagged in my lungs. His eyes pin me down, not with guilt but confusion. Deep confusion. “Even though I don’t remember, I know for certain I’d never send my warriors after you to kill you.” He said firmly, like he believed his own words.

I snorted out a laugh in disbelief. “And why do you believe you’d never send the warriors after me?”

His jaw muscles strained as he snapped into the air. “Because I loved you goddammit!”

His breathing is now harsh, chest rising and falling hard. He looks at me as though he were scared I would walk away from him. “I remember a few bits of that night, Evie. And I know what I felt then. I loved you-

I tear my eyes away, snorting out a laugh once more. “Loved me enough to mark my sister the very same night you took my virginity.”

My words made him flinch and he staggered back as though I had physically hurt him. Good. Let him feel even a fraction of how I felt that night.

“Evie-

He started but I shook my head. “You hurt me in ways I didn’t think you could,” my voice broke, my head shook. ” And now you act like you’ve forgotten-

“Because I have!” Ryan growled, hands lifting in his hair as he tugged at the strands harshly. “My parents, they’ve confessed that they were the ones who brought in a witch to remove my memories of you. They wanted me to mate with Kimberly because she was the strongest she wolf-

“Stop,” I closed my eyes and pulled in a sharp breath into my lungs. I swallowed and then peeled my eyes open to stare into the eyes of Ryan. He looks beaten, as if he knows I won’t believe him.

“Even if they did…” I rip my gaze from his because I am frightened that one look at him and I’d be back to square one. Back in his arms. Back kissing him as if my life depended on it.

“You still tried to get rid of me,” I whispered. “The warriors that night were on your orders.”
