Chapter 103
Serena
Misha’s office door was open when I arrived; he sat behind his desk with a stack of patient files in front of him, his pen midway through a line. He looked up when I knocked, set the pen down, gestured for me to sit.
I closed the door behind me, sat across from him, pressed my palms flat against my knees.the second his eyes fell on me, it seemed like he knew why i was here, his face was twisted in a stern look.
“I need to tell you something,” I said. “I’ve been telling Kieran that you’re the father of my baby.”
Misha’s pen stilled on the desk; his brow rose, his jaw worked once, then settled.
“I know it’s a lot to ask,” I said. “I know it puts you in a terrible position. But Kieran ran a paternity test, the results came back negative, he thinks he’s not the father.” I paused. “Jenna already told him she saw us together. He believes you’re the one.”

his chin. “That would be difficult to maintain. I’m your boss, Serena. We’re colleagues. If this gets out-”
“I know.”
“But there’s something you should know.” He dropped
his hands to the armrests. “When Kieran came here to arrange the paternity test, he asked me to my face if I was the father of your child.”
My pulse kicked; my fingers dug deeper into my knees.
“The way he asked, the fury behind it, I knew what was coming.” Misha met my eyes. “I changed the test results.”
My breath caught; my chest locked, my fingers gripped the fabric of my dress. I had thought it was just an error in the hospital that happened to work in my favour, i never realized that it was Misha who had changed it for my sake.
“You changed them?”
“I realized I needed to the moment he walked into my office.” Misha’s voice did not waver. “He asked me to find a doctor for the test. I assigned the doctor, I oversaw the lab, I intercepted the results before they reached him.” He

paused. “The original test confirmed Kieran as the biological father. I replaced the document.”
My eyes burned; the relief cut through me so sharp my lungs emptied. Misha acted before I asked, protected me before I knew I needed protecting.
“Thank you,” I whispered, tears already threatening to fall.
“But you need to understand something.” I leaned forward. “Changing the test means I now need to provide the real father. Jenna already gave him your name and I think that is why he asked you if you were the father. He must already suspect that you are.”
Misha’s eyes moved across my face; the silence between us stretched long.
“This is dangerous, Serena.”
“I know it is.” My voice cracked; hot tears pressed behind my eyes, each one insistent, each one heavier than the last. “But I need this divorce. I need to be free of him. If he finds out the baby is his, I will never leave that
marriage.” The tears fell; I wiped them with the back of 59 my hand. “Please, Misha. I’m begging you.”

He looked at me; his jaw worked, his fingers tapped the armrest twice. Then he nodded.
“Okay,” he said. “I’ll go along with it.”
Gratitude flooded through my chest; the warmth of it spilled into my throat, my eyes, my voice. “Thank you. Thank you, Misha.”
He stood from his chair. “Come. I’ll walk you out.”
We left his office together; his stride matched mine, his hand hovered near my back without contact. We walked down the corridor, side by side, toward the main
entrance.
The glass doors opened ahead of us – Kieran stood on
the other side.

The hospital corridors were too bright, too sterile, too quiet. I hated the smell of this place, the hum of the lights overhead, the polished floors that threw my own reflection back at me with every step.

But I came because the paternity test was a lie.
I could not prove it, could not point to the flaw, could not name the person who tampered with the results. But Cora pressed toward Aina every second of every day since I read that paper; the bond hummed with a warmth that refused to fade. A wolf did not behave this way toward a mate who carried another man’s child.
A mate bond recoiled from betrayal — it twisted, it soured, it turned to poison in the blood. Cora did none of those things; he pressed closer, not further. He purred when I thought of Serena’s belly, growled when another
man’s name touched it.
The baby was mine; every instinct I possessed confirmed
I turned the corner toward the main entrance. I needed to
find Misha’s office, needed to look him in the eye, needed to pull at every thread until the truth came apart.
My eyes fell on two people.
Serena walked through the corridor with her long hair past her shoulders, her belly round against her dress, her

her; their strides matched, his hand hovered near her back, the space between their frames was a sliver.
They were a portrait of something that did not belong to me; the image sank into my gut, twisted there, refused to leave.
My legs moved before my mind caught up.
I crossed the distance in four strides, reached for Serena’s hand, pulled her close to my chest. My arm wrapped around her shoulders; her body pressed against mine, her belly warm between us.
