The Alpha Who Never Loved Me (Serena and Kieran) novel Chapter 124

Chapter 124

Kieran

Trevor walked over with a glass of whiskey in his hand.

He had a bright smile on his face. “Kieran. I thought you might be running dry.”

I nodded my head and took the glass from him. “You read my mind.”

Trevor stayed beside me as both of our eyes travelled across the party taking in the activities of the day.

“How is the pack?” I asked.

“Fine. The territory dispute is resolved so all is well at home.”

I drank from the glass.

“And you?” I suddenly asked.

“Me?” He lifted his eyebrows, clearly taken aback.

“Any thoughts of marriage?”

Trevor let out a short breath through his nose, half a laugh.

“My family will not stop. Every week there is a new name. Every week I tell them I am not interested. They cannot hear me anymore.”

I looked at him over the rim of the glass.

He kept his face turned toward the room and I watched his eyes drift, by accident or by habit, to the corner of the hall where Jenna was talking to one of the catering staff.

I did not say anything.

I knew why Trevor was not interested in any of the names his family kept bringing him. Although he never said it out loud, I never needed him to.

If it was up to me, my sister and my best friend would be engaged by now.

I drank from the glass again. I looked across the hall and found Serena.

She was standing with two women from the Moonlit

pack, laughing at something one of them said. She glanced towards me for a second and then immediately looked away as if burned by my appearance.

I drank again.

I turned to say something to Trevor when my head went heavy.

I cleared my throat then set the glass down on the high table beside me. My hand reached for the table and I grabbed a hold of it.

Heat rushed up through me, the room was suddenly too hot and felt too suffocating. I looked down at my suit, I was already soaking it through.

This was not whiskey.

I quickly excused myself and walked toward the staircase.

I climbed the stairs with the heat building in my groin, the rush of pleasure was too much to ignore, too distinct.

I reached the upstairs hall.

I went to my old room, staving downstairs at the party

when I was feeling this way was a terrible idea and I could already picture just how bad that would go.

My body felt it was being set on fire and finally being alone in the room away from people, I could finally feel what I needed to feel.

I closed the door then leaned against it.

Cora was clawing at the inside of my chest. The only thing it wanted was to take over. Whatever I had taken had an effect on Cora making him want to take over my body. He wanted to come out and ruin things for him.

Cora was led by passion and desire and not logic, if it was let out now, well, there was a high chance he would go to that party and rip that blue dress away from Serena while everyone watched.

I started undressing, I needed to act quickly to be able to remove the thing constricting me. I felt like I was going to lose my mind if I didn’t remove the clothes.

I stood up and started to pace around the room while removing my clothes one at a time.

The door suddenly opened and someone walked in.

Sophie.

“Kieran.” Her voice was breathy. “Are you okay? You looked unwell downstairs. I followed you. Are you sick? Do you need water?”

Cora growled out of displeasure. I had hoped that anyone who would find me would be Serena, only for Sophie to walk through those doors and piss Cora off some more.

The only good thing was he ducked back in a bit, displeased to see Sophie.

“Sophie.” My voice was rough. “Get out and help me find Serena and send her up.”

Instead, she stayed rooted. “Kieran-”

“I said get out!” I yelled out.

She took a step toward me. “Let me help you. Whatever is happening, I can help. Sit down. Let me get you some water.”

She took another step forward attempting to close the distance between us.

Cora moved straight to the surface. He had ducked awsy a minute ago, but suddenly angry at the sight of Sophie must’ve made him want to rip her to shreds

I took a couple of steps back. “Sophie, stop walking toward me.”

She did not stop, instead, she reached for the my shoulder, her bare hand on top of my skin.

I grabbed her wrist.

“Do not touch me.” My voice came out as a growl, low, animal. “Sophie, listen to me very carefully. You either go downstairs and find my wife, or you get the fuck out of this room. I am not going to ask you again.”

Her face crumpled and immediately, tears started falling from her eyes.

“Why are you doing this to me, Kieran?” Her voice

cracked. “Why are you treating me this way? You used to love me. You used to take care of me. Now you are rude to me, you push me away, you yell at me – what did I do? I have been trying. I have been so patient. The job I had has gone under, did you know that? My company let me

  1. I am in debt, Kieran. I have nothing. Ethan is sick all the time. My mother does not want me in her house. And the only person I have ever counted on was you, and you are treating me like garbage. Why?”

I closed my eyes for a brief moment before I opened them again.

“Sophie. This is not the conversation. This is not the time. Whatever you are going through, I will help you with. But I cannot have this conversation right now. You need to leave. Now.”

“No!” She said defiantly.

“Sophie-”

“No. We are talking about this now.” She said.

At that moment, footsteps sounded in the hallway. The footsteps seemed to be more than one person and instead was like four or five.

Just then, a scent cut through the door. Beautiful orchids that smelt so familiar.

I pulled the door open.

She was standing in the hallway. Behind her were four women I half-recognized from the Moonlight delegation, They were all staring past me into the room.

I did not think.

I grabbed Serena’s wrist.

I yanked her into the room.

In the same motion I caught Sophie by the shoulder and shoved her toward the door. Hard enough that she stumbled before I closed the door and locked it.

I turned to Serena.

She stood in the middle of the room without a reaction. She did not seem scared or angry, just standing there with a puzzled look on her.

“I know what you did,” I said.

She rolled her eyes. “Kieran-”

“You drugged the whiskey.”

“I do not know what you are-

“You drugged the whiskey, Serena. You orchestrated this whole thing, didn’t you?”

Her face was very still. “I do not know what you are talking about,” she said again.

It didn’t matter whether she felt guilty or not or whether she was guilty or not, what mattered was that seeing her was making Cora lose its mind. She was too beautiful.
