Chapter 125
Serena
I walked out of the party alone.
I sat in the back seat and watched the city pass through the tinted window and tried to make sense of what had
just happened upstairs.
Kieran was supposed to break.
It was quite impressive that he could withstand the effects of the drug. I had never met a wolf like him before. How did he not give in to his desires? How did he not have sex with Sophie or even with me?
How did he preserve his rationality when faced with a drug like that?
Was it that it was too small of a dosage? Should I have administered more?
I underestimated him. That was the only conclusion I could come to. And now, there was no way to use that Jam@plan because he wouldn’t trust anyone with his13:13

was the one behind this.
I would need to be smarter.
I rested my head against the cool glass of the window.
There was also the other problem, Misha never came. Even after I personally invited him he never made an
appearance.
Was there a reason he did not come or was it that he was too much in my affairs he completely despised it? I do understand that I came with a lot of drama and ninety percent of that or rather, ninety-nine percent of it was because of Kieran.
Who would want to get tangled up in such a mess?
I could not even blame him. If I wanted that mess, I wouldn’t be fighting for a divorce.
I closed my eyes for the rest of the drive.
Kieran never came back home that night and I slept alone. The drug must’ve been too much on him and he slept it off or rather he found a helper that he used to 3:13
alleviate such pain.

Whatever he did was no business of mine.
I went to work and met Misha in the corridor.
Neither of us brought up the celebration. We greeted each other in the corridor and acted like I never invited him to
an event.
I went into my office. Jacques was already at his desk outside, sorting the day’s files.
“Good morning, Dr. Thawthorne.” He flashed a warm smile when he saw me.
“Good morning, Jacques.” I returned it.
I closed the door behind me before going to my seat. I started reading the patient files for the morning.
I went through the files until a knock came from the door that pulled me back to reality.
“Come in.”
Misha walked in with two folders in his hand, on his face

folders on the desk.
“Serena.”
“Misha.” I looked up.
He sat in the chair across from me. “I owe you an explanation about last night.”
I shook my head just slightly. “You do not.”
“I do.”
“I assumed something came up.”
“Something did. A case suddenly came up and I needed to get things in order and while doing that, time flew by me. I am sorry.”
I shook my head again. “Misha, I am not angry with you.”
“Are you sure?”
“I am sure. I understand work can be very demanding, it’s not a problem.” I waved him off.

He nodded. He looked at the folders on my desk.

“That works.” Andrew was a man that likes things his way and if a cafe was the best place he wanted to meet, I had
to agree.
Misha nodded. I picked up the second folder.
“And this one?”
The first thing I saw was the name on the file. It read Elan Cartridge, and below it, the affiliation: Lunaridge Pack.
Lunaridge Pack was Crimson Pack’s rival. The name rarely came up but it was embedded in every one of Crimson that Lunaridge was a rival of theirs. There was never a particular known reason how this came to be, but the families never ever had a good relationship. Neither could be caught in the same room. Lunaridge was big, wealthy and quite brutal, but it was just the same as Crimson. Neither was greater than the other.
If Misha was treating someone from Lunaridge, Misha was on good terms with them.
If I treated someone from Lunaridge, I would be on those
terms with them too.

The patient was thirty-five years old. The wolf went silent months ago. The current rumor circulating among healers was that the wolf was dead, that Elan Cartridge was a man without a wolf. That fact would end his claim to the alpha line if his family did not go to extraordinary lengths to keep the truth quiet.
“They are asking you to confirm the wolf’s status.” Misha spoke up. “They are asking to confirm whether the wolf is dead, alive, or recoverable. They have had three other healers in. Three other healers have failed. I want you on this case because you are the best second opinion I have access to, and because I trust you.”
I closed the folder but held it in my hands.
If I treated Elan Cartridge, I would gain access to Lunaridge Pack. To their political reach. To their connections. To a network of resources Crimson Pack did
not control. If anyone in this country could help me get a divorce that Kieran could not undo, it would be people who hated Kieran’s family enough to push back on him.
“When can you take me to meet him?”
He smiled brightly upon agreeing. “Today, after your last patient.”

“Done.”
I could not keep my excitement hidden and when the time finally came, I was happy and jumped into Misha’s
car.
There was a problem though, if I failed to find his wolf and treat him, then I couldn’t get what I needed from him. I have to be smart and do everything possible to ensure I find his wolf.
The pack house sat on the edge of a wooded hill. The grounds were quiet. The kind of quiet that did not feel peaceful, almost like a deathly silence.
We walked up the front steps and Misha placed two knocks on the door before it was opened.
“Dr. Laskin. You are expected.” A man dressed in a black suit said without a smile.
“Thank you. This is Dr. Thawthorne. She will be assisting me on the case.”
The butler’s eyes flickered to me. Just for a second. Then be stepped aside.
