The Alpha Who Never Loved Me (Serena and Kieran) novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152

Kieran

My eyes fluttered open. Next to me, Serena was sleeping soundly, softly snoring.

I lay there and looked at her. Her hair spread across the pillow, her shoulder rising and falling with slow breathing, one hand curled loosely near her face.

I didn’t want to move. She looked so beautiful, so perfect. She was laying there with her eyes closed and for a moment I could delude myself that our marriage was not crumbling.

And she wanted this as much as I did.

I rose up.

I got dressed for the day, one item at a time, watching her the whole time. She didn’t stir. I picked up my shoes, carried them to the hallway, and put them on out there. Then I stood at the front door for a moment with my hand on the handle.

I looked back at the bedroom door.

Then I left.

Mark was waiting for me outside in front of the building. He

“Sir,” he said. “About the jewelry I found it.”

My eyebrows shot up. “You found it?”

“Yes. A private buyer, a collector in the east district. The pieces are all together, intact. He hasn’t separated the set.”

“Buy it,” I said. “All of it. Whatever he’s asking. Have it packaged and delivered to the apartment by end of day.”

“Sir, the asking price may be―”

“Whatever he’s asking, Mark. All of it.” He nodded his head, opened the door for me and I found my way into the car.

“Yes, sir.”

I couldn’t help but think of Serena’s face. Would she be thrilled when she saw the jewelry? She never talked about that jewelry directly, but I knew what it cost her to sell it. Those pieces belonged to her mother before they belonged to her. She let them go but now things have changed..

I left work earlier than usual.

I stopped at the market on the way home and walked the aisles longer than made sense for a man who knew what he was looking for. I picked up everything she liked – the ingredients for the sauce she always preferred, the specific effort that shp5:47

I got home and immediately started working: I made the cake first which took a couple of hours. The kitchen was filled with warmth and smelled like sugar. I had given the housekeeper the order not to return for the day making sure she knew all of this

was me.

The frosting was the last thing while the sauce cooked on the stove. It was a simple white frosting, with some fruits over it to give it color.

Then I plated the food and set it on the table waiting for when she would be done with work so she could come over and eat.

The elevator parted and Mark stepped in holding a box. He set it on the table next to me.

“All accounted for,” he said. “The buyer released the set without negotiation.”

I opened the box and the jewelry was right there in all its glory. She would definitely love this. “Thank you. You can go.”

He nodded and left.

I set the box on the counter beside the cake.

The elevator dinged after a few hours making my head shoot up to check who it could be. It was Trevor. He walked briskly to the kitchen and looked around taking in the sight of the kitchen, they

see the smile on his lips, the laugh about to escape.

“Kieran,” he said.

“Don’t.” I put up a finger.

He smiled. “I haven’t said anything.”

“You were about to.”

He came over, opened the box and looked at the jewelry inside. His eyebrows raised just a inch for me to see the look of someone a bit impressed. If he thought this was impressive then she would do the same.

“What do you think?” I asked.

He laughed. It went on longer than I felt was necessary.

“I think it’s thoughtful,” he said when he was done, “you baked her a cake and returned her mother’s jewelry. It’s really thoughtful. But I’m wondering, why are you doing this?”

“Isn’t this the effort she deserves? You all have been talking about how I did this for Sophie and not her, well, I made a cake for Sophie and I’ve made one for her now.”

He shook his head slowly for a minute. “You actually think you are doing the right thing?”
