Chapter 160
Serena
Lucky Draw
I looked at Sophie and thought that was enough. There had
been nothing about our relationship that would give her the idea that making such an absurd suggestion wasA proper thing to do.
Never had I met anyone as gutsy as her to think she could casually toss out the idea of me killing my baby just because she wanted to end up with a man as stupid as she was. Her words had been so easy, so natural flowing that I was more shocked than angry.
I stood up.
My chair scraped back as I crossed the space between us she rose to her feet to meet my eyes.
“Don’t you think it’s a good idea, you…”
Crack!
The sound rang through the office.

She lifted her eyes and looked at me angrily. “Why would you do such a thing?”
“Who gave you the right?” I kept my voice low. “Who exactly gave you the right to walk into my office and say that to me?”
Sophie straightened slowly, her fingers pressing into her
cheekbone.
“Do
you not want the divorce anymore?” she asked.
“I want the divorce,” I said. “I have always wanted the divorce. But I’m not going to kill my child to get one.” I held her gaze. “Get out of my office.”
“You’re lying to yourself.” She shook her head, hand still at her cheek. “You don’t want the divorce. That’s the truth you won’t say out loud. You’re hanging onto this marriage because of his money, that’s all you’ve ever wanted from him, the title, the accounts, the position. And I’m sure that baby isn’t even his.”
Aina surged forward in my chest. We had been through so many things from Kieran and from her but this seemed to be the worst.

“If Kieran loves you so much,” I said, “then go convince him. Walk into his office and tell him he should get a divorce from his wife. You have so much influence over him, go and use it.” I stepped toward her. “Why are you here? Why are you standing in front of me? Go talk to him.”
She didn’t move. Instead she kept looking at me. “Do you think I am anything like you, Serena? I’m okay with waiting because I know the reason why he is keeping you. He loves just me, he wants only me.”
“Then fucking go to him,” I grabbed her shirt and pulled her
towards the door.
“Go to him, tell him you want him, tell him you love him and leave me out of it!” I pushed her out of my office.
The second she was outside my office, I slammed the door
against her.
I had met a lot of people but never someone like this before. Why had she not killed her own son and why did I have to kill

I tried to focus on work and not think of the crazy woman. I sorted out files and read through them making remarks as I
went by.
Overtime, the anger subsided and when I checked the time, I realized that I had to go home. I had agreed to dinner with Kieran so he could have an opportunity to explain to me the oast behind Thawthorne and Cartridge.
According to Elan, he was curious about the version Kieran wss going to give me. To tell the truth, I was too.
Kieran
The day had come to an end and all I could think about was my dinner with Serena. I was going to tell her about the past between Elan and I. She never knew the reason and as such it was easier for her to form a friendship with him. But perhaps when she found out about this, then she would be able to make the decision of not maintaining the relationship
with him.
My phone on the table started to ring. I picked the phone up and gaze at the stream of numbers listed on the screen.
An unsaved number. It was a rare occurrence for such a
Aumber to easily call me. My thumb hovered above the

answering the call.
“Kieran.” Sophie’s voice came through in pieces. “It’s Sophie.”
Her voice was broken, and breathy. It sounded like hebhad been running or she was hurt severely.
“Sophie, what happened? Where is your phone.”
“My phone is destroyed.” She answered. “And I’m at the hospital, can you please come over, I need you.” She begged.
I brought my phone from my ears and took a look at the time.
I had two hours before dinner with Serena. I could easily make it to the hospital and back to the apartment.
“Okay, I’ll be there soon, just hold on.” I said and hung up, rushing out of my office.
I drove instead of Mark and hurried to the hospital to see Serena. The nurse at th front desk led me to her room and when I got there, I saw Sophie on the hospital bed, with bandages around her body.
Her lower was lip split open and bruising spreading along the left side of her jaw. Her eye was swollen at the corner and both hands gripped the blanket across her lap.

She looked pitiful.
“What happened?” I asked moving forward and taking her
hand.
Sophie looked at me for a long moment.
“Serena,” she said softly.
I froze. There was no way that Serena could’ve done such a thing to her..
“She saw us talking at the hospital. When you left, she came after me.” Sophie’s voice stayed flat. “She told me to stay away from you. And then she did this to me.”
My hand fell to my side. I could not believe that Serena would so such a thing. She had made it known countless times that she wanted a divorce and she had no more feelings towards me. I had always thought she was lying and this was a confirmation.
A woman who didn’t love you anymore wouldn’t go looking
for trouble with another woman.
All along, all she wanted to do was teach me a lesson, throw fantrums and make me doubt her love for me when in truth

she had another rule to live by.
A warmth spread through Cora. He rolled around in me like a dog given a bone.
Granted, it was a good thing learning that Serena had simply just been all bark and no bite, but she had beaten Sophie up knowing Sophie was a weak woman.
More than that, had she not been embarrassed?
“Kieran?”
Her voice pulled me to reality. I cleared my throat. “I’m sorry,” I said. “I’ll cover everything. ” I patted her hand. “But I need to get back.”
Sophie’s eyes were instantly filled with tears. “I know you want to go back to your wife, but I really need your help.”
“With what?”
“Ethan’s home. My mother’s not in and I don’t have anyone to go to him. I can’t call my mother because my phone was damaged because Serena wanted me to stop talking to you. But your number was the only contact I remembered and I only used a nurse’s phone to call you.”
