The Alpha Who Never Loved Me (Serena and Kieran) novel Chapter 55

Chapter 55

Kieran

I reached for her hand but she pulled away before my fingers could close.

My chest squeezed; Cora whimpered low inside me.

“You never really loved me,” she said. Her voice was quiet. “I don’t blame you. I don’t hate you. Leaving is my choice and I want to leave.”

I stood there and watched the tears stream down her face, down that beautiful face, her lips trembling around every word.

She wiped her cheek with the heel of her palm. “The woman you love is back. Go be with her. Be happy with her.” Her voice cracked. “You have a son together. You should be a family.”

My fist tightened at my side. “I have never slept with Sophie.”

Serena shook her head. “The thought of you hang asom with her aches my heart. Kieran.”

“Then we can have a child,” I said. “You and I.”

“No.” She refused instantly. “I cannot have your child after finding out that you have one with a woman you preferred over me.” She pressed her hand against her chest. “Please. Grant me the divorce.”

I shook my head. “I won’t divorce you. You can continue staying with your parents but I am not signing those papers.”

Her face crumpled. “I don’t want to keep going back and forth like this.” She took a breath and her shoulders dropped. “Your grandfather got me fired. I just want to live my life away from you and your family.”

Seeing as she had lost her job, perhaps she would be willing to do everything possible to get it back.

“I’ll get you your job back,” I said. “If you agree not to divorce me.”

She let out a small laugh. “I can let the job go. But I don’t want to stay in this marriage.”

My jaw tightened; and my chest felt too constricted to1:42

hold my heart.

“Then there is nothing I can do for you,” I said.

I turned and walked away.

Behind me, the broken sound of her sobs drifted in the air. My heart ached with every step, and Cora clawed at me, wanting to go back and comfort her.

I kept walking.

I returned home that day and went straight to my room.

The tears came before I sat down on the bed. I pressed my face into the pillow and cried until my throat was raw and my chest felt hollow, until there was nothing left.

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. It was morning already, I had cried all through the night with no clue when I finally slept off.

I fetched my phone and my eyes fell on the caller ID. It was the auction house.

The woman’s voice came instantly the call connected. “Mrs. Thawthorne, I’m sorry to inform you that we can no longer proceed with the sale of your jewelry.”

I sat up on the bed, sleep draining from my eyes that instant. “Why?”

The woman on the other end stammered through something about internal policy, but none of it made

sense.

Kieran did this.

He blocked the sale the same way his grandfather blocked my job. They wanted to control me, to be the puppet masters while I danced along with their tone.

I hurried downstairs. “Mom! Dad!”

My parents were in the kitchen, making breakfast together.

“What’s wrong, my dear?” My mother looked over her shoulder at me. “Are you feeling better after last night?”

From what it seemed, my life was no longer a rollercoaster. I could not remember when I felt like I was

on top of the world.

Now, it was like mine. I just kept finding different levels of rock bottom.

“The auction house cannot sell the jewelry anymore.’ Tears fell down my eyes. “I cannot get the divorce anymore.”

My mother’s face changed instantly, she spread open her arm and rushed towards me. I quickly met myself fall into her embrace.

“Don’t worry,” my father said after a while. “We’ll try everywhere.”

But there was no hope. For Kieran to have done this, perhaps he must’ve done worse, like making no other Auction house take my jewelry.

My mom held me till I stopped crying and when I finished, she had a cup of coffee in front of me as the both of them kept watching me.

I couldn’t blame them, I would watch me too. From what it seemed like, only death could spare me from that man42

We sat in silence for a while until the buzzing of my phone grabbed my attention. It was Raymond calling.

“I heard the news,” he said after we exchanged pleasantries. “I’m sorry, Serena. Some of us want to say goodbye properly. Would you come to dinner with us tonight?”

“Of course.” I said softly.

The restaurant was small and warm. Some of my colleagues sat around a long table; they stood when I walked in, hugged me, told me they were sorry, and asked me to keep in touch.

They were all very nice even though we only interacted a few times.

What actually caught my attention was Misha who sat at the end of the table.
