Chapter 62
Serena
A laugh broke out of me.
“Whatever I decide to do,” I said, “whether I change my mind, whether I go, whether I come back, none of it has anything to do with you.”
Sophie went quiet on the other end.
“If you’ve got what it takes,” I continued, “then get Kieran to divorce me yourself. Stop wasting my time by pressuring me.”
I ended the call and walked toward the gate with my bag over my shoulder.
I glanced back once. Through the glass wall of the terminal, the city spread out behind me, the skyline I woke up to for years, the territory I entered as a bride and left as something else.
My heart broke the day I found out that Sophie
and Kieran had a baby together. I lost my mindd 11:48

But from this moment on, he would never get the chance to hurt me or take anything from me again.
I had to make enough money to buy back the jewelry so my parents could have it back. I owed them that much.
I boarded the plane and did not look back.
Kieran
The car waited for me when I landed.
Mark opened the door and I slid into the backseat. “Where to, Alpha? The pack house?”
“No.” I loosened my tie. “Take me home.”
Home. The house I shared with Serena. I told her to move
back in, and that was the agreement. She was supposed to be there by now.
I glanced at the black bag on the seat beside me. Inside was a gift I bought for her during the trip; I picked it up at a store in the city center because the color reminded me of the dress she wore on our wedding day.

“What happenent?” I asked.
“Josh was in an altercation with another student.” The principal folded his hands on the desk. The other student’s parents are refusing to settle.”
This was a prestijous school; several children of pack leaders attended here and they all knew they were relevant. A family that refused to settle did not refuse without reason.
I nodded.
The door opened and Josh walked in with a teacher
beside him.
His lip was split open; dried blood sat in the crack and a bruise spread along the left side of his jaw.
I stood up and walked toward him. “Are you hurt anywhere else?”
I reached for his lip but he slapped my hand away and turned his back to me.
The teacher stepped forward. “Josh got into a verbal

altercation with another student, but Josh threw the
first punch. Despite our attempts to separate them, Josh ‘held on.” She paused. “He has also refused to tell us what
started the fight.”
I listened and then turned to face Josh. He stared at the wall; his jaw was set and his fists were tight at his sides.
I placed my hand on his shoulder. “Josh. Are you hurt anywhere else?”
His body went rigid under my hand. He grabbed my wrist and shrugged it off.
I looked at the principal and the teacher. “I need to speak
with him alone.”
They exchanged a glance, then nodded and stepped out. The door closed behind them and the office went quiet.
“Why haven’t you said anything?” I asked.
Josh glared at me and walked toward the door but I grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
He spun around and threw a punch at my face.

I dodged it and caught his fist. “Learning to defend yourself does not mean you start fights.”
Josh ripped his arm free; his face was red and his chest heaved. “I want to punch your face in.”
“You can try.” I kept my voice even. “But you won’t succeed.”
“You’re disgusting.” He spat the word at me. “You had a child with another woman and you broke my sister’s
heart.”
My jaw tightened.
“What is going on between me and Serena,” I said, “is private. Between husband and wife. As long as we are not divorced, I am still your brother-in-law and I can discipline you if I need to.”
Josh scoffed. “You’re not my brother-in-law. Serena doesn’t want you.” His eyes burned into mine. “You are nothing to us.”
I let out a short laugh. “Come with me. We’ll go see Serena and she can confirm that we are still married.” 1:49

His face twisted. “I will never speak to you again.”
‘The door opened and the teacher walked back in. “Mr. Thawthorne, the other student’s parents have agreed to settle.” She glanced at Josh. “It would be best if Josh returned to class now.”
I nodded.
I turned to the teacher and lowered my voice. “Josh might be going through a difficult phase. I would appreciate it if the staff chose their words carefully with him.”
