“Thank you, dad.” I said as I began to move my shoulder. I couldn’t even feel the pain anymore.

“You’re still weak, my girl. You must stay here and get your strength back before you walk outside. I really don’t want to see you back in this battle Freya.” He scolded me.

I looked out the windows, I could see them very clearly still fighting this fight.

“Those are my people out there dad. I can’t leave them to fight this battle alone.” I told him.

He stomped into the kitchen and disappeared behind the door. After a minute he came back out with a cup and a small plate of food.

“This is how you get your strength back. I’ve done what I can. Now I need to get out there and fight with them, because I cannot put the shield up anymore. I’ve used too much to heal you. Thankfully I was able to keep you from meeting your ancestors today.” He said, giving me a look that said he was irritated that I was going back out to fight and that he was also proud of me for doing so.

Then, he turned and walked out the door and ran back to the battle.

I knew I needed to get back to the battle, but I also knew he was right. I was much too weak to get back in that fight right now. If I walked out there, I would die quickly without the shield.

I drank the water he gave me, and I ate the food. I anxiously watched out the window. I couldn’t see much. I could see them fighting, that was clear, but I couldn’t see how it was going.

Thankfully, food does help. I could feel myself getting better. I/surely wasn’t going to be able to pop no shield, but I could help my people.

I grabbed a couple of the smaller swords that we still had sitting in the pack house and a bow. The arrows would be useful from a distance, and I think that would be a good thing for me to use while

I’m weak like this,

When I walked out, I got up as close as I could while still maintaining a decent distance. I began to climb a tree and found myself on a branch just large enough to support my weight that also overlooked some of the fighting.

I putted back and sent an arrow flying toward a vampire. These arrows were made of wood, just wood. They can kill a vamp if it’s hit directly in the heart. Thankfully, I practiced often with a bow.

I watched the vamp drop, causing the wolf he was fighting to look around. Not seeing anyone with a bow fighting around them he shrugged his shoulders and just moved on to the next person.

I watched for a minute and realized how bad this fight got. They’re killing us. And I can still see them coming. What the hell are we supposed to do? F**k, I should have been more careful. If I wouldn’t have gotten hurt they’d have a shield up protecting them!

Just as I felt the impending doom sweeping over me, I felt a presence I haven’t felt in a really long

time.

It can’t be.

Suddenly, a large gust of wind damn near knocked me out of the tree. I grasped the tree trunk and

looked around.

Large white wings.

It was her!

I climbed down the tree quickly and rushed out to the open. I could see her picking up the vampires. She bit their heads off and then dropped them. Thankfully, they weren’t falling onto our

side of this battle.

I heard Colt yell out to her, she yelled back loud and clear, “I could never allow my favorites to die by the hands of these vamps!”

I don’t think anyone realized just who she was. I began running through the crowd yelling, “It’s the Moon Goddess!” and once they started hearing me yell it, they began cheering.

The blood sucking parasites began to panic.

She flew down next to me, facing a large group of vamps.

Just as I dropped the bow and pulled out a sword, the sight of fire made me flinch.

It was her, she basically vomited fire. I’ve never seen anything like it before.

I’ve read stories when I was a kid about mythical creatures that could do that. Large things that flew and spit fire from their mouths. Dragons.

She’s not a dragon though, she’s an owl. Owls can’t breathe fire. Can they?

I was shocked. As I was allowing myself to feel the combination of happiness and shock, I felt someone wrapping their arms around me.

“I was so worried. I couldn’t feel you anymore.” Colt said as he hugged me close.

“I’m okay.” I said, tears filling my eyes as I began laughing. I couldn’t stop laughing. It was

uncontrollable.

“Let’s finish this, my Luna!” He cheered with his fist pumping towards the Goddess.

She chased many off. What she didn’t chase off we all finished killing.

“You came back.” I said the to the Goddess when she landed back on the ground.

She looked down at me, towering over me in her owl form. She began shifting back to the form I’ve

grown used to seeing her in.

“I know you felt like I left you, but Freya I’ve always been with you. I couldn’t be there to help you. Honestly, I helped you much more than I ever should have.” She placed her hand on my shoulder.

I really wanted to yell at her, I really wanted to tell her about all the hell those miserable little creations of hers unleashed on this world. She knew though, I knew she did. I could see it in her

eyes.

“I’m just glad you came back now, when WE needed you the most.” I motioned to everyone around

  1. “I don’t know that we could have won without you.”

She smiled, “You weren’t supposed to win, my child. They broke the night curse; they were

supposed to win.” She started looking around.

“W-What do you mean? We were supposed to die?” I asked her, completely mortified by what she just said.

“They weren’t supposed to break the curse, but since they did, they were supposed to take control.

She answered me.

I didn’t know what to say. I can’t believe we weren’t supposed to win this battle.

She grabbed my hand and led me to a seat. Once we sat down, she took a deep breath.

“I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t watch them kill you. I felt you getting weak, I watched you start bleeding

out, I felt the life start leaving you. I just couldn’t do it.” She said.

“You were here the whole time?” I asked her.

She nodded. “I have seen what your children are supposed to do in this world. I know who they’re supposed to be and they’re only going to be that if you live.” She said.

She started looking around at everyone again, I began looking around with her. Everyone started cleaning up and tending to the wounded. We wanted to get everyone out of the bunker, but the plan is that we’re going to get our dead gathered and taken to another area so that we can take families to their loved ones that perished.

“I wasn’t supposed to help you anymore, but I just couldn’t let you die Freya.” She said quietly. The guilt showed in her voice. I honestly didn’t think that the Goddess could possibly feel anything like

that.

“You are my favorites out of all of my creations. I created you and your bloodline in more ways

than one. I wasn’t just the creator of the wolves, but I am the first mother of your bloodline. I have a

very special bond with you that I just couldn’t shake. A bond I will carry with your children as well.”

She placed her hand on my shoulder, “A bond that I just couldn’t stand to lose.”
