COLT POV
There are times when being the alpha is more challenging than I think I can handle, like having to do my best to be sitting for Rivers family as she laid there dying hoping someone would save her.
Then, there’s times like this when I address the pack to explain that we may not survive this, but we’re going after the vampires and you see an entire pack cheering and volunteering to be a part of it. Hell, even those that aren’t warriors were wanting in on this.
Not much could make an alpha more proud of his pack. River’s death hit everyone in this pack, we’re a close pack and everyone is family. Losing her is like losing a niece or a granddaughter for most of us.
Her parents are a big part of my life growing up. Her older brother trained with me when I first got my wolf. Her mother used to watch me when my mother had to go with my dad for events. River wasn’t quite as close with me as the rest of her family was, but it still felt like losing a part of my family.
This group of vampires would pay, and Big Sky looked up to the task.
First things first, we need to know more about these vampires and why they’re here. Eunice hasn’t gotten much about them. He shot Freya a look when I first asked him about it, turns out he told her that he visioned this woman trying to seduce her. She said she didn’t intend to keep that from me, it’s just that there was a lot going on and she kind of forgot.
I let it slide, I know she had a lot at that point that she was dealing with.
Note that I know, I know what to look for. I haven’t slept lately though, I’ve been spending my time reading everything I could get my hands on about these creatures. The disadvantage here for us is that we don’t really know a whole lot about them.
They can’t be in the direct sunlight, their bite is deadly to us, and apparently they, or maybe just she, can put you in a trance and basically have their way with you.
I did sent a couple gammas down in the daylight to go ask Belladonna what she knows or if she might have any books, spells, or anything that might help us.
At this point I’m hoping they come back with something because we’re about to go in empty handed to a battle where the enemy is heavily equipped.
Freya has spent most the day with the kids. I imagine as a mother having to watch another mother lose her child brings up some horrible thoughts and feelings that only being with your children can help. As a father, it makes me thirst for blood.
While she’s been obsessing over them I’ve been obsessing over figuring out how to kill these damn vampires.
I’ve been in my office trying to get through a couple books I’ve already read once, but I’m going through them again hoping I missed something. I heard a knock at my door.
Without diverting from my reread I hollered, “It’s open.” So the person knocking could hear.
Eunice walked in, I didn’t look up from my book, and he didn’t seem to care or need me to, Alpha, I need your ear a moment. I had another vision about the vampires but it isn’t quite what I was hoping for.” He started.
“You see, my first vision i could just see you and Freya in some kind of a room with this vampire, no context just that she was reducing her and making you watch.” Well, that caught my attention. I didn’t know about the whole making me watch thing.
“Now I’m seeing the reason you’re in this room with her is because she invited you and her to discuss some sort of truce.” He said sounding concerned.
“Why would we agree on a truce?” I asked.
“Well Alpha, that’s just it. You wouldn’t. Anyone in their right mind knows this so my vision isn’t giving me answers. Just more questions.” He said. I understand where his concerns are coming from.
There is no option for a truce here, what they did was methodical and horrific. I would never agree to meet on the basis of a truce.
We just have sat there for a couple hours wracking our brains trying to figure out what would draw is to meet up for a truce. The answers arose more questions and the entire situation with his vision was entirely too frustrating.
There was another knock at the door, and the man who walked in was not one I expected to see yet.
“Dwain.” I said as I stood. Given that he and his wife just lost their daughter I wasn’t expecting to see him so soon.
“Alpha.” He said as he entered and walked to stand in front of the desk.
“How can I help you my friend? Please, anything at all I can do.” I said.
He looked at Eunice then looked back over to me, “Whatever this plan is with these vampires,
