Ian sat in his car, replaying the conversation between Chloe and Blair in his mind, his long fingers idly tracing the fabric of his suit pants.

He was almost certain now that Chloe wasn’t someone who’d time-traveled. He’d just been overthinking it.

Chloe’s sudden decision to call off the engagement was probably just her friends talking her out of it.

She resented both Edward and Shane and was disappointed in lan as well. With a few friends persuading her, it was no surprise she decided to call it quits.

Remembering what Blair told Chloe, Ian felt restless and uneasy

It didn’t matter whether Chloe had started liking someone else.

He still wasn’t going to give up on her.

That evening, Chloe was hosting two female classmates who’d come in from out of town, so she booked a booth on the first floor of the Royal Court Club.

While she was waiting for her friends, she ran into Patrick.

Chloe instantly remembered how Patrick had used her brother trick her into going to the Hamilton Private Airfield.

Patrick tried to act like he didn’t see her and sneak away, but Chipe grabbed him by the collar and shoved him back into his

seat.

Chloe grabbed Patrick by the collar and started smacking him around. “Finally caught you!”

Chloe didn’t hold back, raining down slaps on him. “It’s bad enough you lied to me for your friend, but you even used my brother! Don’t you feel guilty at all?”

Patrick tried to protect his head and face. “Alright, alright, I messed up! I promise, never again.”

Patrick started begging for mercy, and only then did Chloe finally let him off.

Patrick hastily whipped out his phone, flipped on the camera, and fussed with his hair. “How many times do I have to tell you? Never hit a guy in the face, and the head is totally off-limits”

Chloe helped fix his jacket, teasing, “Not like you’d ever let me go for your butt, right?”

Just then, a middle-aged dude trying way too hard to look sexy rutted past them.

With matching expressions, they both shot him a look, then exchanged glances and started whispering to each other. snickering.

Soon enough, Chloe called out to her two friends from across the room, waving them over.

Patrick got up and left.

Not far away, Ian stood there with a stormy look on his face, watching them for who knows how long.

His deep eyes kept flicking back and forth between Chloe and Patrick from across the room, never missing a beat.

‘No distant with her?’ Ian thought, ‘Can just chat, and a man she can’t even mention?’

More than ten minutes later, in a private room on the second floor, Ian was chatting with a few friends in the private room when Patrick walked in.

Patrick plopped down right next to Ian, gave his shoulder a friendly pat, and asked, “When did you get here?”

Ian held his glass, turned his head, and just stared at Patrick.

Patrick looked totally confused by Ian’s stare. “Man, what’s with you?”

lan asked, “Are we really friends?”

As soon as Ian said that, the whole room instantly got awkward.

Patrick glanced around at everyone, then looked back at Ian. “Dude, are you crazy?”

Ian shook his head and said, “It’s nothing.” That seemed to put everyone at ease.

After everyone else left, Ian didn’t rush to leave the private room

Seeing this, Patrick stayed behind as well.

With just the two of them left, Ian suddenly asked, “Why do you keep dodging the whole engagement thing?”

Patrick leaned against the liquor cabinet, giving Ian a sharp look “Even my grandma doesn’t care about my love life. What makes you think you get a say?”

Ian pressed on, “So, is there someone you like?”

Patrick nervously glanced toward the door, clutching his chest, trying to play it cool.

‘Did he figure it out?’ Patrick thought, panic rising in his chest. ‘I’ve been careful; there’s no way he could’ve noticed:

Ian sat quietly on the couch, watching Patrick dodge his gaze, looking guilty all over. Ian’s eyes slowly darkened as he took it all in.

They walked out of the club one after the other, just in time to see Chloe helping her two friends into a car.

Ian stepped past Patrick and went straight to Chloe, catching a whiff of alcohol on her. “You’ve been drinking. It’s not safe for you to go home alone. Let me call a cab and take you home.”

Chloe glanced back at Jan, then at Patrick.

Patrick thought lan was acting really off tonight.

He grabbed Chloe by the arm and leaned in to whisper, “Let me ake you home. I need to talk to you about something anyway.”

Chloe cleared her throat and told lan, “You go ahead, Ian. I’ll let atrick take me home.”

Watching the two of them whispering as they hopped into the cab, lan’s expression grew even darker.

It was almost midnight when Patrick strolled out of the elevator humming a tune.

But as soon as he spotted Ian just standing there outside his door in dark pajamas, staring at him blankly, Patrick almost jumped out of his skin.

Patrick clutched his chest and blurted out, “Dude, what are you doing lurking at my door in the middle of the night? Are you nuts?”

Ian replied. “Couldn’t sleep. Figured I’d drop by for a drink.”

Patrick opened the door, and the two of them walked in one after the other.

Patrick grabbed a bottle of wine and headed to the living room. The wedding’s off, so why are you still crashing here?”

Ian stood in the living room, his deep-set eyes sweeping over every corner like a radar, missing nothing.

The more Patrick watched lan, the weirder he felt. “What, are you here to watch me?”

They exchanged a look, then lan walked over and sat down on the couch.

Taking the glass Patrick handed him, Ian suddenly said, “I’m thinking of sending Mia abroad for a few years to study. What do you think?”

Patrick blurted out, “She’s doing great at Kingsford University. Why the sudden plan to send her overseas?”

Ian glanced up at Patrick. “My aunt wants to introduce her to a nice guy. If Mia goes abroad to study, they’ll have a chance to get to know each other.”

Patrick made a face. “Mia’s only twenty! Isn’t that rushing things?

Ian replied, “The best don’t stay on the market for long. It’s not a bad idea to start scouting early for Mia.”
