Chapter 314

Ian, Patrick, and Mia had just stepped out of the restaurant.

Thomas, the butler from Hamilton Manor, approached respectfully. “Mr. Hamilton, Edward wants Miss Mia to return to the manor immediately.”

Mia, feeling guilty, hid behind Patrick. “Grandpa only wants me for something bad. I’m not going back.”

Patrick glanced at Ian, then tried to comfort Mia. “It’s okay. I’ll go with you.”

Thomas looked troubled. “Mr. Patrick Lewis, Edward said Miss Mia should go back alone.”

Mia grew even more anxious. “Ian, what’s Grandpa up to?”

Ian and Patrick shared a look, both sensing trouble.

Ian said, “Come on, Mia, I’ll drive you back myself.”

He thought, ‘Mia was out all night. Grandpa must’ve caught wind of it.’

Thomas knew better than arguing with Ian, so he just got in the car and left.

Mia, feeling both guilty and anxious, grabbed Patrick’s arm and wouldn’t let go.

Patrick turned to Ian. “I’ll come with you.”

Mia instantly refused. “Patrick, you can’t! Grandpa is totally unreasonable. He’ll kill you for sure!”

As soon as she said it, Mia glanced at Ian and realized she’d let something slip.

Ian gave Patrick a reassuring pat on the shoulder. “Wait for my

call.”

He thought, ‘It’s about time Mia and Patrick made things official between them.’

Over an hour later, at Hamilton Manor.

As soon as lan and Mia walked in, Edward snapped, “Get on your knees!”

Mia, scared out of her wits, looked at Ian. “Ian…”

Ian gave her a reassuring look and stepped forward to face Edward and his parents.

Ian said, “Grandpa, we’re your family, not your slaves. If you have something to say, just say it. Can you stop forcing us?”

Edward, furious, slammed his cane down. “A Hamilton heiress, staying out all night. Is that how you’re supposed to act?”

Miranda, worried, got up and hurried over to Mia, shooting her a warning look. “Mia, say sorry. Now.”

Before Mia could get a word out, Shane shot to his feet.

Shane pointed at Mia and scolded her, “Don’t think we don’t know what you’ve been up to out there!”

Shane said, “We wanted you to marry Patrick, but you turned it down.

“Now he’s got a fiancée, and you go and do something so outrageous with him? Do you have any idea how embarrassing this is for us? Where does that leave the Hamilton family’s reputation?

“I’m going to go ask the Lewis family myself. Is this really how they bring up their kids?”

Mia was completely stunned.

She’d been hoping to cover it up with some excuse, but now she realized the whole family already knew.

She blurted out, “This has nothing to do with Patrick! I forced him!”

Shane, furious, raised his hand to hit Mia. “You reckless brat!”

Ian stepped forward, putting himself between Mia and Shane.

Shane pointed at Ian. “Move aside!”

Ian kept his cool. “Wasn’t our family all for marrying into the Lewis family? Mia and Patrick together is exactly what you wanted, so why are you making such a fuss, Dad?”

Shane’s forehead veins popped in anger. “The Lewis family has already announced that Patrick is engaged to the Campbell family’s heiress. If the Campbells hold us accountable, what does that make your sister?

“The Campbells and the Hamiltons have been close for years, and your grandpa and Mr. Campbell are old friends. Now that things have blown up like this, how’s your grandpa supposed to face the Campbells?” Shane jabbed a finger at Mia.

Before Shane could finish, Patrick walked in, helping his grandma, Tessa Lewis, through the door.

Right behind them were Patrick’s parents, his brother, and his sister-in-law.

Seeing Patrick arrive with the Lewis family elders in person, Ian stepped forward to greet them.

He thought, ‘Patrick’s got a mind of his own, takes responsibility, and is endlessly patient with Mia. He’s exactly the kind of guy she can count on for life.

Patrick’s mom, Jill, came forward with a friendly smile. “Shane, there’s no need for you to worry about a thing. The Lewis family will talk to the Campbell family ourselves. We’ll make sure nothing gets in the way of our families’ friendship.”

Jill just couldn’t hide her grin at Mia. The more she looked, the more she liked Mia.

Patrick’s dad, Lucas Lewis, seeing this, nudged her quietly. “We’re here to apologize for Patrick, not throw a

Patrick’s elder brother, Victor Lewis, piped up from behind, “Seriously, Mom, if you want to smile, wait till we’re back home.”

Ian helped Tessa settle onto the sofa.

Miranda welcomed Patrick’s family into the living room.

Patrick reached over and brushed Mia’s hair back to check her face. “No one hit you, right?”

Mia smacked his chest a couple of times. “Who told you to come? If Grandpa decides to break your legs, don’t expect me to save you.”

Patrick grabbed her hand. “I’m practically the Hamilton family’s future son-in-law. Your grandpa wouldn’t dare touch me.”

Patrick let go of Mia, walked up to the elders of both families, and knelt down right in front of Edward, Shane, and Miranda for everyone to see.

Shane’s face clouded over. “Patrick, what do you think you’re doing?”

Tessa kept a straight face. “Patrick messed up. He should apologize and face the consequences.”

Lucas said, “Shane, we clearly didn’t raise our son right. We brought Patrick here today. He is yours to deal with, however you see fit.”

Patrick said, “Grandpa Edward, Shane, Miranda, this is all on me. I shouldn’t have let things get out of hand when Mia was drunk.”

Mia was just lost for words.

She’d always been the one bossing Patrick around, but she never thought he’d have her back like this when it really counted.

‘Not bad, not bad at all, Mia thought.

Patrick said, “I love Mia, and I want to be with her, please. Grandpa Edward, let us be together.”
