Time flew by, and before anyone knew it, the end of the year was here.
With just a week left until the New Year, Ian found out that Chloe was coming back home.

In the Hamilton Corp. Executive Office, Mia turned to Ian and reminded him, “Ian, Chloe is arriving home tonight. Did you book a private room for her welcome dinner?”
Ian’s eyes lingered on the clock in the corner of his screen. “I’ve got something going on tonight. Let’s set the welcome dinner for tomorrow evening instead.”
Ian thought, ‘She is probably wiped out after hours on the plane. She should get some rest and shake off the jet lag first.’
Ever since Ian’s last trip to Tecnovia to see Chloe, they hadn’t met again, not even exchanged a single message.
Still, Ian found himself tapping on her WhatsApp profile picture over and over again, every single day.
Whenever someone nearby mentioned her name, his heart would tighten uncontrollably.
Day or night, alone or with others, whenever he had a spare moment, thoughts of her would flood his mind.
After so many days and nights of silent torment, he was finally going to see her.
Ian was getting restless. He stood up and headed to the liquor cabinet, pouring himself a glass of wine.

It was Saturday morning, the start of the weekend.
Ian’s tall frame was wrapped in a casual suit and a long black trench coat, giving him a sharp, cool edge that made him look even more imposing.
He paced nervously outside Chloe’s house, hesitating for ages before finally taking a deep breath and pressing the doorbell.
Chloe opened the door, wearing her cartoon-print loungewear. When she saw Ian standing there, she paused, caught off guard.
Ian stood at the doorway, gazing at Chloe in a daze.
Even after all this time apart, she hadn’t changed a bit, still so gorgeous he couldn’t look away.
Chloe felt self-conscious under Ian’s blatant, lingering stare.
After hesitating for a moment, Chloe stepped outside and softly closed the door behind her. “Ian, why are you here?”
lan glanced at the tightly shut front door behind Chloe, then quietly withdrew his gaze, a hint of

disappointment flickering in his eyes.
He refocused on Chloe. “I’ve set up a welcome dinner for you tonight. Just wanted to drop by and let you know in person.”
Chloe immediately declined. “You really don’t have to go to all that trouble. Maybe we can just make a few friends together some other time.”
Ian could feel Chloe was keeping him at arm’s length.
He quickly clarified, “Don’t get the wrong idea. Patrick and Mia put this together for you.”
Seeing Chloe hesitate, Ian added, “They’ve already invited everyone. They’ll be waiting for you in the private room tonight.”
Chloe nodded. “Alright, see you there.”
She couldn’t say no to Patrick and Mia’s thoughtfulness.
It’s been ages since everyone hung out together, so having Ian there, too, doesn’t really matter.
After Chloe agreed, she started to head back inside, but noticed Ian was just standing there, not moving an
inch.
She looked back at him. “Ian, do you need something?”
Ian’s eyes were fixed on Chloe’s delicate face, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed hard.
He was just about to step closer when Chloe opened the door from inside.
Standing in the doorway, she said, “It’s freezing out here. You should head back, Ian. See you tonight.”
Ian stared at the door as it closed in his face, almost stepping forward but stopping himself, his foot slowly dropping back to the ground.
A heavy ache settled in his chest. He just stood there at the doorway, lost in his own world, before finally turning and walking away.
About ten minutes later, lan drove out of the neighborhood, and just as he was leaving, he spotted Eric’s car pulling in from the outside. His eyes narrowed, and his gaze turned cold.
As their cars passed each other, Eric caught sight of lan and gave a polite nod in greeting.
Eric’s car slowly rolled into the neighborhood.
Ian pulled over to the side of the road just outside the entrance.
Just as Chloe finished getting dressed and was about to head out to pick up her family from her relatives’ place, the doorbell rang again.

Chloe couldn’t help but frown.
She’d already told lan where she stood.

He’d promised her he wouldn’t mess with her life and would just let her live her life and be happy.
‘What does he want now?’ Chloe wondered.
She cleared her throat and opened the door with a frosty look.
But when she saw Eric standing there, her attitude instantly softened. “Eric, what brings you here?”
Eric stood at the doorway, holding a bag of supplements. Tall and lean, dressed in a turtleneck and a luxurious long coat. He looked effortlessly refined, like someone born into privilege.
Eric glanced past Chloe and said, “Chloe, I’ve been thinking it over, and I really think I should apologize to your folks and clear things up with them.”
Eric hadn’t even finished before Chloe instantly freaked out.
She grabbed Eric and dragged him inside, slamming the door shut behind them.
Eric set the supplements down and asked, “Are your folks home?”
