He said, “Mom, you need to rest. Eleanor had already found out where Violet was staying overseas. I have to get Andrea out of the country right away so she can look after Violet and her child.”

Henry drove Andrea to the airport in the evening.

He handed Andrea a brand-new phone and gave her Violet’s contact info and address.

Henry said, “I’ve had someone wipe your past clean. Your passport and personal files now say you’re single and childless.

“I’ve kept your diploma from the Dance Department of Kingsford College of Arts, and the certificate from your advanced studies at the art academy in Tecnovia will be sent to you next week.”

Henry added, “From now on, as long as you never mention your past, no one will ever know what happened to you.”

Andrea was on the verge of tears from excitement.

With this brand-new identity, she didn’t have to live in fear of her past marriage being exposed or worry that her child would drag her down anymore.

She was now a college student with a spotless record, coming from a humble family, and an achiever who’d earned her overseas degree through sheer hard work.

This new identity would be her stepping stone to high life.

It was a little after eight in the evening. Mia dropped Chloe off at the entrance of her apartment and saw Eric standing nearby.

Chloe quickly got out of the car.

Noticing that Mia was gripping the steering wheel and staring at Eric, Chloe said, “Stop staring. Just go

home.”

With no other choice, Mia finally drove off.

“What are you doing here, Eric?” Chloe greeted him, and as she spoke, she couldn’t help but sneak a look at the elevator.

Eric walked up to her. “Hazel just got back from Tecnovia and brought a bunch of gifts. I figured I’d drop some off for your folks.”

As Eric spoke, Chloe caught a whiff of cologne on him. It was subtle, fresh, and she had to admit that it smelled really nice.

She couldn’t remember Eric ever wearing cologne before.

She thought, ‘Was it possible that he started wearing cologne just because I complimented Patrick’s scent that night?’

Chloe shot Eric a cautious look. “You didn’t take the stuff upstairs, did you?”

Eric shook his head. “I wouldn’t dare, not without your permission.”

What had been a respectful statement carried a hint of flirtation in his tone.

The mood felt a little tense, so Chloe quickly switched topics. “You’ve got an early flight tomorrow to visit your grandma overseas, right? I made some scented candles for her. I’ll go upstairs and get them.”

Eric gave Chloe the gifts.

After a short while, Chloe came back down and handed Eric a bag. “It’s getting late. Drive safe on your way

home.”

Eric took the bag from Chloe and leaned a little closer. “Dr. Irvine, aren’t you going to give me a hug?”

Their eyes met. Chloe turned her head, avoiding his gaze. “If you don’t leave now, I’ll have to kick you out.”

Eric couldn’t help but lean even closer, his voice dropping to a low whisper in her ear. “You will come back to me at the end of the day, right?”

Chloe rolled her eyes, gave Eric a shove, and bolted for the elevator.

Eric stood there, grinning as Chloe shot daggers at him from inside the elevator.

As soon as the elevator doors slid shut, Chloe took a deep breath and thumped her chest to calm herself down.

This usually serious and upright person’s letting out a flirty comment nearly scared her out of her mind.

She had no idea how she was supposed to face Eric once she was back at the hospital after the holidays.

After everything that happened with Ian, all she wanted was to focus on her career. However, out of nowhere, she ended up sleeping with Eric.

Now Eric kept dropping by her place every other day, and sooner or later, her parents were bound to catch him.

More than an hour later, Mia arrived at Blue Cove Residences. She used her fingerprint to get into Patrick’s place and saw Ian was there, too.

Mia rushed in, dropped her bag, and blurted out, “I just dropped Chloe off at her place. Guess who I saw?”

Patrick glanced calmly at Ian. “Eric?”

Mia was stunned. “How did you know?”

Mia and Patrick both shot a look at Ian.

Ian calmly picked up his glass from the coffee table, not showing a hint of emotion.

Mia asked, “lan, are you really not interested in Chloe?”

lan looked down, masking his true feelings. He brushed it off. “We’re childhood friends. That’s all.”

Patrick smoothly changed the subject. “Babe, you spent half the day shopping with Chloe. Did you get me anything?”

Mia perked up again. “You guys won’t believe this. Violet’s beauty salon got wrecked today, and her niece got beaten up. She even went and slapped Margaret.”

Ian sat quietly on the couch, but he couldn’t stop thinking about one thing-Eric went to see Chloe tonight.

Annoyed, lan got up. “I have to go.”

Back home, Ian paced restlessly in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, checking Chloe’s WhatsApp chat every few seconds, but he had no idea what to say.

Ian fought to keep his cool, but the frustration inside him just wouldn’t go away.

As he exited WhatsApp, Eric’s latest Instagram post stung him.

It was a simple bag, set against the backdrop of a night sky and tree shadows. The caption was simple. [Goodnight.]

Ian recognized it instantly. It was the tote bag Chloe had ordered online, the one she used to carry her

scented candles.

Restless, Ian clutched his phone and walked into his study. He opened his laptop, but couldn’t concentrate on anything.

Back in his bedroom, he lay on his bed, and all he could think about was Eric’s Instagram post from earlier tonight.

Ian just couldn’t settle down. He threw on some clothes and headed out.

When Chloe got lan’s call, she spent ages debating before she finally made herself go downstairs.

Ian opened the passenger door. “It’s cold out here. Let’s talk in the car.”
