Chloe turned around. She walked over to Ian and said confidently, “Eric comes from a good family. He’s capable, handsome, and has a great personality. He’s a great guy.”
Ian’s eyes were fixed on Chloe’s face. “If he tried to pursue you, would you think about it?”
Chloe looked up, meeting Ian’s gaze.
She thought, ‘Such a blatant test. It’s not like Ian’s usual style.”
Chloe met Ian’s eyes and answered, “Maybe.”
It all started with a drunken mistake. She wished she could make Eric forget that night entirely.
However, Eric’s behavior made it clear that he wanted to take things further with her.
He was open and honest with her, straightforward yet teasing, never pressured her, and always respected her feelings.
When she asked him to keep things private, he never breathed a word to anyone, even if he sometimes acted a little flirty around her.
Eric was honestly an amazing guy.
Chloe thought that if she ever truly caught feelings for him, she’d probably go for it.
Chloe’s determined tone made Ian’s heart sink.
His gaze wavered for a moment. “It’s cold out here. You should head upstairs.”
Chloe gave Ian one last look and turned briskly on her heel.
Watching Chloe disappear into the elevator, Ian felt utterly drained. He staggered back a couple of steps, pressing his back against the car door, struggling just to stay on his feet.
Ian echoed her answer in his mind, thinking, ‘Maybe? That means they haven’t gone that far, right? Chloe loves me with all her heart, but now she’s heartbroken and disappointed.
‘She isn’t the type to just fall for someone else overnight. As long as she isn’t married, there’s still hope for
me.’
Ian kept reassuring himself, over and over.
The next evening, in Hamilton Manor, Mia walked up to the kitchen. “Ian, you’ve been cooking all afternoon. Chloe can’t possibly eat all this.”
It was the first time she’d ever seen lan actually cook.
Two chefs were standing by, coaching Ian while he carefully plated the food.

He shot Mia a warning, “Don’t say anything stupid in front of her, got it?”

Chloe was still salty about him baking a cake for Andrea, so she wouldn’t touch anything he made.
He couldn’t let Chloe find out he’d made tonight’s dinner himself.
Thomas rushed in. “Mr. Hamilton, Ms. Irvine just arrived.”
Ian quickly put down his utensils and took off his apron. “Tell Mom dinner is ready.”
He asked Mia to bring Miranda out while he headed to the door to welcome Chloe.
Chloe handed Ian the gift. “This is a special scented candle I made for Mrs. Hamilton.”
Ian took the gift from Chloe. “Come in. Mom knew you were coming, and she hadn’t stopped mentioning you all afternoon.”
Chloe nodded and followed Ian into the living room.
Ian reached out to take Chloe’s hand, but when his fingers brushed her sleeve, he quietly pulled back, pretending nothing had happened.
As they walked into the living room, Mia came over, smiling. “Chloe, you’re finally here.”
Chloe and Mia headed over to Miranda together.
Chloe sat down beside Miranda. “Are you feeling any better, Mrs. Hamilton?”
Miranda had been fighting a cold for a week, and she still looked pretty drained.
“Now that you’re here, Chloe, I’m feeling so much better,” Miranda said, giving her hand a warm squeeze.
Ian reminded, “Mom, dinner is ready. Let’s head to the dining room.”
Chloe saw lan in his comfy clothes, bending down to grab the stool at Miranda’s feet and telling Mia to help. She suddenly felt that he seemed more approachable now than before,
She thought, ‘It seems that since his second chance, he’s finally come to understand just how much family
matters.
Miranda walked into the dining room and took in the spread of delicious dishes on the table.
She turned to lan. “Chloe loves pancakes. Why didn’t you make any for her?”
Miranda’s sudden mention of pancakes made lan’s chest tighten, and he instinctively glanced at Chloe.
Chloe just took it in stride.
She gently helped Miranda to her seat, explaining, “Mrs. Hamilton, I’ve been cutting down on sugar, so I’m skipping sweets lately.”
Miranda nodded. “Yeah, if you eat the same thing all the time, you’ll get tired of it. Trying something new is nice for a change.”

Ian stared at Chloe, a wave of guilt washing over him.

He thought, ‘She isn’t doing this for sugar issues. She just won’t touch them anymore, and this is all my fault.’
Mia, sensing the mood, moved over to sit on Miranda’s other side, making space for Ian to sit right next to
Chloe.
Ian pointed at the salmon and smiled at Chloe. “Give this a try. It’s nice.”
Chloe cheerfully took a bite and couldn’t help but exclaim, “Yeah, this is delicious.”
Ian could feel his heart racing.
He’d cooked this just for her.
She really ate it, and she even said it was delicious.
Mia jumped in, “Of course. Ian cooked this salmon himself-
Before Mia could finish, she saw Ian’s warning look and quickly corrected herself. “I mean, I asked the kitchen to buy salmon.”
Ian relaxed his grip on his fork. He poured Chloe a glass of juice. “Just make yourself at home.”
Chloe smiled. “Ian, you should try it, too.”
Chloe caught on, even though Mia didn’t finish her sentence.
She knew that Ian had cooked this salmon himself.
She’d said they were still friends and she’d put Ian on the same level ás Patrick, treating him like a brother, just as she promised. And she meant it.
Therefore, if lan cooked something, she’d love to give it a try.
Ian just stared at Chloe, his eyes gentle and careful, like she might vanish if he blinked.
Miranda saw the way he looked at Chloe and couldn’t help but feel a little worried.
After dinner, Miranda kept Chloe back for some girl talk. At eight, she told lan to give Chloe a ride home.
Chloe was about to say no, but lan agreed before she could. With Mia right there, Chloe just went along with it.
