Chapter 328
Chapter 328
Eric’s phone kept ringing in the quiet luxury car.
Chloe and Ian locked eyes.
Ian held Chloe’s wrist tightly, refusing to let go.
Chloe broke free from Ian and got out of the car.

The window rolled down slowly as Ian watched Chloe walk into the elevator, picking up Eric’s call. He clenched his fists and pounded the steering wheel twice, trying to vent his frustration.
He’d promised her that he’d respect whatever she decided. He feigned composure, forcing himself not to go looking for her.
However, when he saw another guy by her side, he could barely keep pretending anymore.
His head and his heart fought a thousand battles every day, and it was driving him crazy.
Patrick showed up. He glanced in the direction Ian was looking, then opened the car door and slid into the
passenger seat.
Patrick said, “Mia said you were dropping Chloe off. Do you mind giving me a ride back?”
Since Ian didn’t say anything, Patrick just came out with it. “Ian, you got feelings for Chloe, didn’t you?”
Ian clenched his fists. He shot back, “What makes you say that?”
Patrick saw Ian’s reaction and made a face. “Come on, man, it’s obvious. I’m not blind.”
Seeing lan go quiet, Patrick asked, “Have you ever heard this one?”
Ian looked at him.
Patrick poked right at his sore spot. “Love that comes too late means nothing.”
Ian was speechless.
He didn’t need anyone to remind him. He’d already learned that lesson the hard way.
Patrick asked Ian, “Do you know what’s the scariest thing about falling for someone?”
Ian said, “Just spit it out.”
Patrick cut straight to the chase. “When you love someone, the worst part is having no position in their life. Without position, your care, jealousy, suspicion, and possessiveness have no outlet, and eventually, they’ll crush you from the inside.”
Ian shut his eyes, feeling completely drained.
Every word Patrick spoke felt like a knife stabbing straight into his chest.

Patrick said, “If you and Chloe are never gonna be together, you’d better get over it now. Otherwise, you might not even stay friends.”
Patrick had been friends with Ian for years, and he could see right through him.
After a long moment, Ian slowly opened his eyes.
Patrick was right about everything, but he just thought he owed Chloe.
This was his punishment, and he had no right to go mad.
Soon, it was the day before Christmas Eve. Chloe hit the streets with her parents and Carl for some shopping.
As the four of them stepped out of the supermarket, they saw an old man’s car suddenly go out of control.
Carl dashed over to help, but the car still slammed into the door of a shiny new BMW before finally coming to a stop.
The old man fell to the ground, and Carl rushed over to help him.
The old man kept thanking him. “Thank you, son.”
A young couple got out of the BMW, and when they saw the paint scraped off the door, they blew up.
The guy, Felix Burton, pointed at the old man and Carl. “Do you even know how much this car costs? Even if you sold your own, you couldn’t afford it.”
Chloe’s parents stepped in front of Carl, shielding him. “Let’s talk this out calmly. Why are you yelling at
us?”
Chloe said, “We weren’t the ones who hit your car. If you want someone to pay, take it up with his family,
not us.”
She always believed that one should have a kind heart, but not to excess. If anyone was paying, it sure wouldn’t be her.
The young woman, Joelle, jabbed a finger at Chloe and her family. “I heard that old man call him ‘son’. Don’t even try to deny it. You’re obviously family.”
Right then, the old man shuffled over. “My son ditched me. I don’t have a penny to pay you.”
Hearing that, Felix and Joelle got even more fired up, blocking Chloe and her family from leaving.
Felix kicked the old guy to the ground. “Fuck off, you piece of shit.”
The old man crashed to the ground, and people on the street stopped to stare.
Carl, young and righteous, stepped forward indignantly. He pointed right at Felix, refusing to back down. “Watch your mouth.”
Unexpectedly, Felix lunged at Carl. “Damn it. If you’re not paying, no one’s leaving.”

Chloe told her mom to call the cops, then stepped forward with her dad to shield Carl.
Right in the middle of all that chaos, a black Bentley cruised up and parked behind the crowd.
lan stepped out of the car.
Felix stared at lan, thinking he looked kind of familiar.

As soon as he and Joelle saw Ian get out of the Bentley, dressed sharp and oozing authority, all their swagger disappeared in a flash.
Chloe took the chance to pull Carl and her dad aside.
When Carl saw Ian, he came over, looking aggrieved. “Ian, they’re being unreasonable.”
Chloe couldn’t help but frown at her brother’s reaction.
Ever since they were kids, she’d always relied on Ian, and so had Carl. Even after her wedding to Ian was called off, Carl was still close to him.
Ian came over to Chloe and checked her over to make sure she wasn’t hurt.
Chloe shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Ian looked back and saw Carl clutching his shoulder, clearly in pain.
He walked right up to the young couple and stared Felix down. “Which hand did you use to hit my brother?”
Felix was so freaked out by Ian’s chilling presence that he started stammering and backing away, hiding the hand he had used to punch Carl.
Ian’s eyes darkened, and he suddenly struck.
Before anyone could even process what was happening, there was the sound of bone snapping, and Felix screamed in agony.
Ian let go.
