Chloe let go of Eric. She turned her back to her parents and shut her eyes tight, too scared to meet their

gaze.

Jill asked, “Chloe, what happened?”

Frank told Carl to help Eric up, but Carl refused angrily.

Chloe glanced down at Eric.

Seeing Eric’s innocent face, Chloe blurted out a lie without blinking. “Don’t worry. Eric just twisted his back and lost his balance. Carl got the wrong idea.”

Seeing her parents visibly relax, Chloe felt relieved, too.

Frank came over and helped Chloe lift Eric up.

Jill said, “Hurry and get him downstairs. Let Chloe see how bad it is.”

Carl, still not buying it, poked Eric in the back.

Eric immediately flopped onto Chloe’s bed.

Chloe was speechless.

Seeing Eric was really hurt, Frank told Chloe to hurry and take him to the hospital.

Chloe couldn’t wait to get Eric out of the house. She said, “I’m taking him to the hospital right now to get him checked out.”

Ten minutes later, they were sitting in Eric’s car. Chloe was behind the wheel, and Eric was in the

passenger seat.

Chloe gripped the steering wheel, turned her head to stare at Eric; and said, “I’ll drop you off at the entrance. Then you can drive yourself home.”

Eric rubbed his back, looking serious. “Dr. Irvine, you kicked me off the bed. My back is seriously messed up now.”

Chloe rolled her eyes.

Eric said, “Antonio has magic hands when it comes to massage. Guess you’ll have to drive me back.”

Chloe looked at Eric, and for a moment, she couldn’t tell if he was being serious or just joking.

She hesitated for a second, but in the end, she decided to drive Eric back.

Tomorrow was Christmas Eve. If she really had wrecked his back with that kick, he’d be doomed to spend the holiday flat on his back.

Chloe drove Eric’s car out of the neighborhood and eased onto the street.

By the curb, the window of a black Bentley rolled down slowly. Ian stared at Chloe and Eric inside the car, his expression freezing as his chest tightened with emotion.

Around three in the afternoon, they arrived at the Jordan residence in Verdantville.

The gates slid open, but Chloe stopped the car at the entrance, not driving inside.

Eric unbuckled his seatbelt, rubbing his back. “What’s wrong?”

Chloe opened the door and stepped out of the car. She turned to Eric. “I’m not going in.”

Her relationship with Eric was getting complicated, and she still hadn’t sorted it out.

She wasn’t very close to Eric, and even less familiar with his family. It was better not to intrude.

Eric reached out to Chloe, and she quickly helped him out of the car.

“Eric,” someone said.

They both turned at the sound.

Chloe saw a little girl bouncing up to Eric. She recognized her as his little sister, Sophie Jordan.

Seeing the group trailing behind Sophie, Chloe felt a twinge of unease, thinking, ‘Why did so many people come out all of a sudden?’

Eric quickly introduced Chloe to his family. “Guys, this is my junior from med school, Dr. Irvine. She works in the Department of Sleep Medicine at Westside General Hospital.”

Chloe couldn’t help being impressed.

Antonio Jordan and Hazel Jordan were dressed elegantly and looked perfect together, looking like they’d walked right out of a painting.

Hazel walked over with a bright smile and shook Chloe’s hand. “So, you’re Eric’s junior, whom I’ve heard so much about.”

Sophie skipped around Chloe, her eyes shining. “Eric, Chloe is so pretty.”

The butler chimed in, “This is the first time I’ve ever seen Mr. Eric Jordan bring a girl home.”

Hazel warmly took Chloe’s hand and ushered her inside. “It’s freezing out here. Let’s go in.”

Chloe was totally out of her element, standing her ground and refusing to move. This family was just way too welcoming for her, and she honestly didn’t know how to deal with it.

Chloe flashed an awkward smile and said, “Thanks, but no thanks, Mrs. Jordan.”

Seeing Chloe refusing to come in, Antonio discreetly nudged Hazel.

That was when Hazel finally let go of Chloe’s hand.

Jude Jordan turned to Eric and asked, “How did you hurt your back? Where did it happen?”

Eric shot Chloe a look and answered honestly, “At Dr. Irvine’s place.”

Chloe looked sheepish and dropped her gaze.

Jude turned to Antonio. “Antonio, didn’t Eric say he was heading to the hospital to take care of something? How did he end up at his junior’s place? Did I hear that wrong?”

Antonio replied in a serious tone, “Maybe we all heard it wrong.”

Antonio’s sarcasm was so obvious, and Chloe felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment.

She mumbled, feeling awkward, “Well, I’ve got something to take care of, so I’ll get going.”

Chloe said goodbye to everyone and hurried off.

Though she couldn’t be called a refined young lady, she was usually poised and confident in social situations; this was the first time she felt so flustered.

Eric waved off the butler and Sophie, who were trying to help him.

Antonio asked, “Didn’t you say you hurt your back? Come on, I’ll fix it for you.”

Eric replied, “Don’t bother. I’m feeling better now.”

Hazel watched the three men walk side by side into the courtyard and couldn’t help but sigh.

The Jordan brothers were seen as the epitome of composure and refinement, gentlemen whose reputations shone equally bright. They had good family background, good looks, and plenty of talent.

However, only the women of the Jordan family knew that appearances could be deceiving.

These three men were all tricky and playful, naughtier than anyone could imagine.

Her husband, Antonio, was forty. He maintained a stern and formal persona outside, always upholding the commanding image of the head of the Jordan family.

At home, however, he was playful like a kid. He’d dance the rumba in a bathrobe for her and argue with his
