Chapter 109
Third Person’s POV
Elmer was losing his mind. He grabbed Melanie by the shoulders, shaking her slightly. “What did he say?”
“He told me to pick him up tomorrow at noon.”
“That’s it? He didn’t mention me? Like, at all?”
She shook her head.
Elmer checked his own comm–stone, which was as silent as a grave. He immediately looked like a kicked puppy. “Professor Norman is totally playing favorites. He definitely likes you better.”
Seeing Elmer looking so genuinely crushed, Melanie felt a rare spark of playfulness. She reached out and patted him over his heart. “Feeling any better now?”
“Nope,” Elmer said, doubling down on the drama and pointing back at the club doors. “The only way my broken heart heals is if tonight’s tab is on the ‘teacher’s pet.
“Fine, fine. I got it.”

Melanie’s lips curved into a small smile. She felt a rare sense of lightness.
Elmer was obviously kidding; as former classmates who had pulled all–nighters in the lab and shared countless research headaches, there was no way he’d actually let her pay.
Besides, Marcus’s commanding voice was still ringing in his head–he was terrified that if they didn’t move fast, Professor Norman would somehow sniff out the fact that he’d brought Melanie to a bar.
The two of them hurried back to the bar to close out, vanishing into the midnight streets of West Hollywood.
The next day, the sunlight was almost blindingly bright.
Melanie, driving her low–profile black sedan, pulled up exactly on time in front of Marcus’s hillside villa.
When Marcus climbed into the car, he looked every bit the meticulous scholar, his Alpha aura restrained and cold.
“Where to, Professor?” Melanie asked, smoothly shifting into gear.
Marcus gave her a private address.
Half an hour later, led by an attendant, they stepped into a heavily guarded private club.
The moment the door opened, two thick, steady waves of auras hit them.
Inside stood two middle–aged men with an undeniable air of authority. Even in casual, high–end clothes, they couldn’t hide the sharp edge of men who had spent decades in power.
“You’re here.” Seeing them enter, the two men stood up with the practiced grace of high–ranking werewolves.
“Brigham Dean. Spike Harvey ” Marcus remained as blunt as ever, treating these two titans like old drinking buddies. He kept the introduction short “My student, Melanie”
Melanie’s pupils contracted slightly.
She had seen these names in news reports and Royal Werewolf Briefs. One was a power player in charge of top tier Royal high tech projects; the other was a heavyweight in the political arena.
Yet, facing Melanie, these two giants pulled back their claws. They smiled warmly and reached out “Melanie, we’ve heard a lot about you.”

Despite her internal shock, Melanie’s training kicked in.
She shook their hands firmly–respectful, but not submissive. Her voice was cool and polite. “The honor is entirely mine, sirs.”
Brigham and Spike traded a look, a flash of approval in their eyes, and gestured for her to sit.
“We’ve been following your work for a few years now,” Brigham said as they sat at the table, his tone steady and powerful.‘ We’ve been asking Marcus to introduce us, but you know how busy things get. Over the last few days, our experts have been evaluating that core system you developed. The feedback has been… incredible. Since everyone had a free window today, we figured we’d grab lunch and finally meet the mind behind it.”
After the pleasantries, the conversation cut straight to the bone.
From distributed architecture and high–end chip algorithm constraints to the application of future energy in defense engineering…
Melanie didn’t miss a beat.

When she spoke, her focus was intense. The confidence backed by her intelligence gave her a quiet, steady elegance that held its own against their raw power.
Marcus sat to the side, quietly eating and sipping tea. He seemed used to this “showing off the student” routine and barely said a
word.
An hour later, Brigham personally refilled Melanie’s coffee. She took it with a polite nod.
His eyes were as deep as an old well, but when he looked at her, there was a fatherly warmth. “If my intel is right, you’re twenty- five this year, Melanie?”
“Yes, sir. Twenty–five.”
“So young. You have an unlimited future,” Brigham praised.
Spike, catching the hint immediately, jumped in. “Are you mated? Or perhaps seeing an Alpha from one of the packs?”
Melanie hesitated. Bringing up personal life felt a bit sudden in this setting. She lowered her lashes and replied calmly, “I am mated.”
“And soon to be unmated,” she thought.
Facing these two seasoned veterans, she wasn’t about to spill her private life.
Brigham and Spike were clearly surprised, but at their level, they didn’t miss the small details. The flash of sadness in Melanie’s eyes when she mentioned her mate didn’t escape them.
Clearly, her mating wasn’t a happy one.
Which meant their sons might actually have a shot.
To men of their stature, the daughters of powerful pack Alphas were a dime a dozen.
But Melanie was different. She was a genius–the kind of leverage that could move the world of future technology
