Third Person’s POV
“I’m not doing this right now. I’m leaving for the day,” Melanie said coldly.
In the past, she would have promised to finish it quickly. She didn’t want anyone to think she was getting special treatment.
But today, she was done trying to be perfect, especially when it came to anything related to Archer.
She was tired. She just wanted to go home and see Monica. She didn’t want to work overtime.
Besides, Rufus had unfairly accused her yesterday. She wasn’t that forgiving.
Rufus’s face darkened. He thought Melanie was pulling rank because of her connection to Archer.
His tone was clearly scolding. “Get your work ethic straight! Do you think this is your home?”
The stinging from dropping the coffee tray still lingered on Melanie’s fingertips. Frost’s anger was still bubbling inside.
The aftershock of the mating bond being stressed by Archer and Camille hadn’t faded.
Being deliberately targeted by Rufus now, she subconsciously let out a sliver of cool aura.
The aura wasn’t aggressive, but it wrapped around her like a layer of thin ice.
She picked up her bag. Her attitude was still aloof, but her voice now had a tense quality. “If you’re not satisfied, just fire me following company procedure.”
“You-“Rufus started to raise his voice to argue, but suddenly, his throat felt blocked.
He felt a strange stiffness in his back. His tight shoulders unconsciously slumped. His aggressive stance instantly deflated.
He couldn’t place what was wrong, but the Melanie in front of him felt like a completely different person.
She looked the same, but the “don’t mess with me” vibe around her had intensified. It made him afraid to meet her eyes. He even lowered his breathing instinctively.
The harsh words he had prepared were stuck in his throat. He couldn’t force them out.
He knew Melanie had already submitted her resignation.
Even though Archer trusted him, he wasn’t the only one running the company.
Moreover, Melanie was highly regarded by Moira, and he had to be cautious of that.
Melanie ignored him and walked past. As she went by, that faint werewolf aura brushed him again.
Rufus instinctively stepped half a pace to the side. It wasn’t until the sound of her footsteps vanished around the corner that he finally snapped out of it.
“Just because of her connection to the boss, she thinks she can act tough!” Rufus furiously clenched his fist, his nails digging into his palm. His face turned dark.
He was both angry and mortified. The strange fear he had just felt was embarrassing
The more he thought about it, the more furious he got. Finally, he kicked a nearby file cabinet hard before stalking out of the secretarial department, his face like thunder.
Herbert saw his upset expression. “What happened?”
Rufus recounted the entire incident.

Herbert was surprised. He interacted with Melanie the most and knew her character.
He couldn’t help but say, “That doesn’t sound like Melanie. Is there some kind of misunderstanding?”
“Misunderstanding? There’s none! That’s exactly what happened! She’s not as great as you always say she is!”
Herbert paused. “Did she just start slacking off because she’s quitting?”
But Melanie’s work lately had been as proactive as ever. She was the same as before..
Just then, Archer walked toward them from a distance. “What’s going on?”
“It’s Melanie. She left work without finishing her assignments.”
“If you’re unhappy, fire her according to procedure.”
Both Herbert and Rufus were taken aback.
It wasn’t that they thought Archer was too indifferent to Melanie, but his words suggested he didn’t know Melanie had already resigned.
Wasn’t Melanie quitting his idea?
They were about to ask when Archer’s phone rang.
Archer didn’t look at them again. He answered the phone as he walked past them toward the elevator. “I’m off work now. I’ll be
there soon…”
Meanwhile, Melanie had already left the company and was driving to Monica’s pack, the Red Rose Pack.
Trista was close to Monica.
In the past, whenever Trista was home, Melanie would bring her along when she visited Red Rose.
But Trista hadn’t called her once in days. Instead, she called Camille daily, missing her terribly after only a few days apart.
In that case, Melanie didn’t need to force herself to pick her up.
Moreover, if Monica found out how close Trista was to Camille now, she would be furious,
There was some traffic. Melanie arrived at Red Rose after six in the evening.
Monica saw her and affectionately touched her face. “You look thin.”
Melanie’s eyelashes fluttered. “I’ve been a little busy with work.”
