Third Person’s POV
It was past ten in the evening when Archer returned to the packhouse.
Trista rubbed her eyes and came over. “You’re back, Dad?”
Archer’s tone was flat. “If you’re tired, go to bed.”
“Got it. Good night.”
“Good night.”
After Trista went upstairs, Archer followed.
His bedroom was completely dark. No one seemed to be there.
Archer paused, then flipped on the light. Empty, as expected.
He didn’t think much of it. He figured Melanie had gone back to the Red Rose Pack.
As he walked into the bathroom, he suddenly remembered that Melanie always took Trista with her when she visited Red Rose. It was unusual that she hadn’t taken Trista today.
Did she not go back to the Red Rose Pack?
Still, maybe something was going on at the Red Rose Pack.
Archer recalled what Rufus said when he left the company that afternoon. He felt more certain about this guess.
He paused but decided not to get involved.
The next morning, Archer said to Trista over breakfast, “Your school registration is done. You start tomorrow morning.”
Trista wrinkled her nose. “Will you take me to school tomorrow, Dad?”
“I might not have time.”
“Okay.” Trista’s eyes rolled, then suddenly lit up.
She said happily, “Then I’ll call Camille later and ask her to take me.”
Before Archer could reply, his phone rang. Moira’s voice came through the receiver. “I haven’t seen Trista in a long time. I miss her. Bring her and Melanie over for dinner tonight.”
“Got it.”
Moira asked again, “Where is Melanie? Let me talk to her for a minute.”
“She’s not home.”
“Why would she be out at this time?”
“She probably went back to the Red Rose Pack.”
“Probably? You have no idea where your mate is?”
Archer didn’t respond.
“You-“Moira sighed, finally falling silent.
Archer’s tone softened a little then, but he changed the subject. “Did you have breakfast?”

“I’m too angry to eat!”
Archer chuckled lightly, still eating his breakfast unhurriedly.
Moira knew he had his own opinions since he was a child. That’s why she handed the Razor Pack over to him.
Right now, the state of his mating with Melanie was already a huge compromise for Archer.
She sighed again. “Never mind.”
“Okay, see you tonight.”
Moira hung up angrily.
Trista hadn’t been listening closely, but she caught a few phrases. She asked curiously, “Dad, who was that?”
“It’s Moira,” Archer
said, calling Melanie on his other phone. “She wants us to have dinner tonight.”
Moira was usually kind to Trista, and Trista liked her too. She immediately said, “Great! I haven’t seen Grandma in months. I
miss her.”
Archer looked at his phone and hummed.
On the other end, Melanie was having breakfast. She paused when she saw Archer’s call.
His call no longer brought her any surprise or happiness.
After a two–second hesitation, she answered, “Hello.”
“Moira wants us to have dinner tonight.”
Melanie replied, “Okay, I got it.”
“You come back to pick up the child later.”
Melanie didn’t want to go back to Archer’s villa. Besides, Trista might not want to go with her, so why bother?
So she said, “Have the driver take her. I’ll drive myself over after work.”
That was simpler, actually. But Melanie always insisted on doing things for Trista herself and enjoyed it. Archer was surprised to hear this, but he didn’t argue.
“Understood.” With that, he hung up.
Trista then realized the call was with her mom. “Was that Mom?”
“Yes.”
“So Mom will be going to Grandma’s house with us tonight?”
“Yes.”
Trista frowned immediately.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to see Melanie or that she didn’t miss her.
It had been a long time since she saw Melanie. Melanie hadn’t contacted her for over half a month, which was rare.
When Melanie was mentioned, she felt a little wistful.
But the thought of Melanie coming home meant she was back from her trip. Trista had been happy when her mom was gone, hoping to spend more time with Camille.

Since Melanie would restrict her from seeing Camille once she was back, Trista had hoped her return would be delayed. She couldn’t believe her mom was back after only two days.
Melanie definitely wouldn’t let Camille take Trista to school tomorrow. And Melanie absolutely wouldn’t let Trista go to
Camille’s car race tomorrow night.
Trista lost her appetite for breakfast, feeling deflated. “Dad…”
Archer looked over. “What is it?”
Trista was conflicted. She could ask Dad to tell Mom that Camille was taking her to school, but Mom might fight with Dad…
This is so annoying! She didn’t even want breakfast anymore.
She decided she could compromise on the school drop–off and let her mom take her. But she had to go to Camille’s race tomorrow night no matter what.
So she started to whine playfully, “It’s just… you promised to take me to Camille’s race tomorrow night. But Mom will never let me go if she finds out. So we can’t let her know about this. Will you cover for me if Mom asks tomorrow?”
“Fine.”
With that assurance, Trista’s mood brightened a little.
A while later, Archer finished breakfast and left.
