Chapter 14
Melanie’s POV
I had lost my appetite after the phone call. I put down my fork and prepared to get up.
Chad looked at me and said, “You’ve lost a lot of weight lately, and you don’t look well. You should eat more breakfast.”
I thought of my uncle’s appearance at dinner yesterday. I could tell he looked noticeably worn out recently.
Even though I didn’t work at the Willis Group, I knew the company was going through a tough time.
Chad was overworked and stressed trying to manage the company, but he couldn’t get it back on its feet.
Over the years, if Archer had just helped with a few projects, the Willis Group wouldn’t be in this situation.
But aside from the two times Moira gave a forceful command, Archer never helped me.
I figured if Moira hadn’t intervened, given Archer’s misunderstanding of me, he wouldn’t just refuse to help; he might have actively tried to dismantle the Willis Group. (1
I gave a bitter smile.
Chad knew I was in a difficult position. Even when the company desperately needed help, he never asked me to seek Archer’s aid.
After breakfast, Monica went to the Pack Square to sunbathe.
I handed Chad a bank card with ten million dollars in it.
“Melanie, you don’t have to-”
“I don’t really have a use for this money.”
I pushed the card back toward him. “I can’t help with anything else. This is all I can do.”
I was always good at academics. I was great at research and development, but I was simply not suited for business.
Luckily, I had filed several patents in the AI field years ago, and the tech company Elmer and I founded gave me annual
dividends.
All in all, even if I did nothing, I could earn tens of millions of dollars a year.
Chad looked full of guilt. “You’ve given me money several times already, but the company is still…”
He paused, lowering his voice. “Still not improving. It’s my fault.”
“Company transitions require major investment. That’s totally normal. Don’t pressure yourself too much.”
I thought back to Elmer’s words, “The Al field is developing so fast now. With your ability back then, our company would probably be worth hundreds of billions by now. It would be a leader in the industry. Luckily, there’s still a lot of room for growth. We still have a chance. I hope you can come back soon.”
If I returned to the company and improved its performance, I could provide Chad with mote financial support.
I left the Red Rose Pack and headed to work. I didn’t run into Archer at the office.
Around noon, Monica called and asked me to join her for lunch.”
The restaurant was near the Atkinson Group. As I approached the restaurant, a man’s voice drifted on the wind and caught my
attention.
Even from over fifty meters away, my superior werewolf hearing caught every word clearly.

“Archer, if you hadn’t helped me just now, I might not have secured this contract even if I tried everything. I really have to thank you this time.”
That familiar voice made me freeze instantly.
My gaze cut through the roadside sycamore leaves. The profile of my biological father, Alpha Marvin, was right in front of me.
I instinctively took a step forward. Archer’s patchouli scent immediately flooded my nostrils.
It was his.
The scent that was once tightly bound to my mating bond now felt foreign.
A werewolf’s memory of their mate’s scent is etched in their very bones. Even with the cracks in our bond, I could recognize him instantly among thousands of scents.
Then Archer spoke. “It’s nothing.”
I could tell Archer’s tone was gentler than usual.
My hands slowly clenched into fists, my fingers digging into my palm. I knew too well the significance behind that tone.
Only the older, more respected elders of the Atkinsons usually warranted that kind of attitude from Archer.
But what was Marvin?
Neither Marvin’s Haines Group nor his Evernight Pack could compare to the Atkinson family.
He was just a mediocre Alpha wolf who had abandoned my mother and me years ago.
We rarely saw each other. The only daughter he publicly acknowledged was Camille.
So, I didn’t believe Archer respected Marvin because of me.
Sure enough, Marvin continued, “Camille is here alone. Her mother and I worry about her. I’ll have to trouble you to look out for
her in the future.”
I almost laughed out loud.
Camille and Archer met after Archer and I mated. Camille knew about my relationship with Archer. I couldn’t believe Marvin didn’t know Archer was the mate of his other daughter,
He surely knew, yet he still shamelessly tried to push Camille and Archer together.
