He said, “I just don’t think someone like you would be interested in racing, so I’m a little curious.”
“Someone like me?” Melanie looked straight into his eyes.
At the same moment, the usual warm, apple–scented pheromones surrounding her suddenly felt coated in ice, growing cold and sharp. “Mr. Santos, are we close? Do you know me well? Since you think you know me so well, why don’t you tell me, exactly is a person like me?”
In Dwight’s eyes, Melanie had always been quiet, gentle, and maybe even a little shy.
But he was convinced it was all an act–that she was manipulative underneath.
what
Otherwise, she never would have pulled such a dirty stunt to get Archer back then, and then acted all innocent and refused to admit it to this day. 1
Dwight didn’t say anything, just looked at Melanie.
He couldn’t be bothered to judge her, and he felt it was beneath him anyway.
He could feel the coldness in her pheromones intensifying, and his chest tightened oddly. This was completely different from the “docile” Melanie he remembered.
But just as he was about to look away, Melanie subtly tilted the corner of her eye. A faint but unmistakable Alpha aura quietly spread out, like a fine needle gently pricking him.
Dwight’s back went ramrod straight. His fingers instinctively gripped the spectator railing, and his breathing hitched for half a
second.
It was only then that he fully realized how different Melanie’s demeanor was today compared to the past. It was like she’d ripped off a mask and wasn’t going to pretend anymore.
Yet, it wasn’t exactly that either. The way Melanie looked at him was cold, sharp, clean, and even a little mocking.
It was as if she were ridiculing him for thinking he had her figured out and standing on his high horse to judge her without knowing the facts.
It was only at this moment that Dwight fully remembered–she was, after all, a female with Alpha blood.
Melanie didn’t care what Dwight thought. She broke eye contact, the cold pheromones and aura around her receding. She turned and walked away.
By the time Melanie dropped Erasmus off, it was already eleven o’clock at night.
Even though Erasmus had eaten dinner, he was hungry now. “That spot over there has great late–night snacks. My treat, wanna grab something?”
Melanie hadn’t eaten dinner and wanted something warm to fill her stomach, so she agreed.
As soon as they sat down, her stomach loudly growled.
Erasmus froze for a moment, then realized. “Luna Melanie, you… didn’t eat dinner?”
“Mhm.”
Erasmus immediately looked guilty. “I’m so sorry, this is my fault…”

“It’s okay. I wasn’t hungry before.”
Erasmus looked at Melanie’s gentle smile and felt a pang of sadness.
He truly thought Melanie was an amazing person. It was a shame Archer just didn’t love her.
When Archer and his friends got home after celebrating with Camille; it was nearly one in the morning.
The omega maid, Shannon, saw Archer carrying Trista in so late and asked with concern, “Why are you back so late?”
Archer didn’t explain.
After taking Trista to her room, he returned to the master bedroom and turned on the light. Not seeing Melanie, he asked Shannon, “Is she not back tonight?”
“Luna Melanie? No, she hasn’t returned.”
Archer was a little surprised. Melanie had barely been home these past few days. Staying out so often was unusual.
Had something really happened at the Red Rose Pack?
The next morning, Trista woke up smiling, in a fantastic mood from hanging out with Camille recently.
She thought of Melanie, grabbed her stuffed animal, and ran toward the master bedroom. “Mom! Mom!”
The master bedroom door was open, but no one was inside.
Just then, Archer walked out of the dressing room, fully dressed. She quickly asked, “Dad, where’s Mom?”
Archer slowly tied his necktie. “She’s not home.”
“Not home? Why?”
“Ask her yourself.”
“Fine.”
Trista grabbed her phone and called Melanie.
Melanie had just finished her run and answered. Before she could say anything, Trista immediately jumped in. “Mom! Where are you?”
Melanie didn’t answer, asking instead, “What’s up, Trista? Do you need something?”
No one knew where she was living now except for Gillian.
She really enjoyed living alone and didn’t want to be disturbed, so she wasn’t planning on telling Trista where she was just yet.
