The Breaking Point of Mate: Giving Up on My Alpha novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24

Third Person’s POV

Trista genuinely missed Melanie.

Her eyes welled up with tears because she didn’t get what she wanted. No! I want you to take me! Except for yesterday, Mom, you haven’t taken me to school for days—

Since Trista was being so insistent, Melanie had to cave. Okay, Mom gets it. I promise.

She agreed, not out of heartfelt tenderness, but because since she gave birth to Trista, she felt a duty to her.

A smile finally returned to Trista’s face.

Archer finished putting on his watch. Seeing that Trista was about to keep chatting, he reminded her, If you don’t go downstairs and eat breakfast, you’ll be late for school.

Trista shrieked. I haven’t even brushed my teeth or washed my face! Mom, I gotta go get ready! Talk to you later!

Without waiting for Melanie’s reply, she quickly hung up.

Melanie put her phone down, finished her breakfast, and left for work at the Atkinson Group.

There was an important meeting scheduled that morning, and Archer would be attending.

Melanie and the others were seated in the conference room for over ten minutes before Archer finally showed up.

The moment he walked in, Jewell gasped, her eyes glued to him, completely unable to look away.

It wasn’t until the meeting officially started that she snapped out of it, nudging Melanie’s sleeve and whispering, He is so hot!

Melanie didn’t even look up, just giving a dismissive Mhm.

Jewell was surprised at her lack of interest, but then remembered Melanie was married and decided it was normal.

Throughout the meeting, Jewell was completely distracted, not paying attention to the discussion.

Melanie, however, was focused on taking notes on her laptop.

After the meeting, Jewell was still lost in thought until Herbert came over to collect Melanie’s meeting notes. That snapped her back to reality.

Herbert quickly flipped through the notes and couldn’t help but say, Great job. Thanks.

Melanie replied, Just doing my job.

After Herbert left, Jewell realized she hadn’t paid attention at all and quickly asked Melanie to send her a copy of the notes.

But after barely looking at them, she started rubbing her temples. Did you study architecture before?

Melanie said, No.

Then how do you know so many industryspecific professional terms

I looked for books and taught myself. I only know the basics.

The Atkinson Group invests in all sorts of projects. To do her job well, she had spent years learning about various industries.

Wow? You’ve even read books on the medical field?

Mhm.

After interacting with Melanie for two days, Jewell finally understood that Melanie had genuinely earned her position as the head of the secretary team at such a young age.

Those books you read before, can you send me a list later? I want to try to read some too.

Sure, I’ll send it later.

At noon, Melanie filtered out a selection of books that were easy to start with and suitable for Jewell’s current stage of learning, organizing them into a list and sending it over.

Jewell stared at the list of forty or fifty books and was instantly dumbfounded.

At three in the afternoon, Herbert instructed Melanie to brew a few cups of coffee, saying he would come pick them up later.

Jewell then learned that Melanie had always been the one to make Archer’s coffee.

Seeing that Herbert was coming to get the coffee himself, she guessed that Archer was trying to keep his subordinates from

using the chance to get close to him.

She tentatively asked, Do you ever take the coffee to Archer yourself?

Occasionally. If Herbert’s too busy, he’ll have me deliver it.

Jewell liked coffee, but never thought about learning how to make it. Now, hearing Melanie, her eyes lit up. How do you brew the coffee to Archer’s taste? Can you teach me?

Even if the chance was slim, she wanted to take it.

Melanie immediately saw through Jewell’s intentions but still agreed. Sure.

She had already given up on Archer. What was the point of keeping the secret of making his favorite coffee?

Just then, Herbert arrived at the coffee station and froze when he heard their conversation.

He and Rufus had always believed that Melanie wouldn’t actually leave and would find a way to stay.

When Jewell started yesterday, they thought Melanie would make a moveafter all, Jewell was pretty. Why would Melanie be okay with her being around Archer?

But now, Melanie wasn’t only accepting Jewell, she was willing to teach her how to make coffee?

What in the world was going on?

Melanie didn’t worry about what Herbert thought. After finishing her work, she planned to go home for dinner and continue her Al research.

Just as she left the company, her phone rang. It was Trista.

Mom, are you done with work?

Melanie got in the car and asked, What’s up?

I want fried chicken strips and vegetable chicken soup. Will you come home and make them for me?

She and Archer hadn’t formally divorced, and Archer hadn’t called to ask her to move out.

She felt he probably wouldn’t object to her coming back to cook dinner for their daughter.
