The second Rebecca stepped into the room, the two of them immediately teamed up against her.
She looked between them, completely unfazed. “So, what I’m getting here is that whatever a teacher says goes. No matter if it’s right or wrong, we all just have to do it?”
Lily felt like that was true, but with Wade standing there, she reined herself in.
“Rebecca, are you just trying to make trouble between us teachers and Wade? How can you be so calculating at your age? You’re the one who messed up, but instead of owning up to it, now you’re twisting things and blaming me. That’s just low.”
Rebecca leaned against the wall, the corners of her mouth lifting in a lazy smile. “Alright then, Lily. Why don’t you tell me exactly what I did wrong?”
Wade had been watching her closely. Seeing her stay so calm, he finally relaxed a little and added, “Yeah, Lily, what did Rebecca do wrong?”
Lily scoffed. “Wade, Rebecca’s totally reckless. She skipped class two days in a row and then lied, saying you told her to check out the lab. She doesn’t even have a formal degree. There’s no way she could understand your research, but she stuck to her story. That’s why I made her stand outside.”
Ablitt’s expression shifted.
He was in the loop about Wade’s plans to set up a lab and had even given a hand behind the scenes... but how did Rebecca know about it?
He glanced warily at Wade, then back at Rebecca, who still looked as cool as ever. Imagining all the wild rumors going around school, he started to get an uneasy feeling.
What if those rumors were true?
