At the White home, Aaron ended his phone call and headed straight for Norris’s study.

“Mr. White, I’ve just spoken to our contact. They said they’re not available now. The earliest they can see you is next week.”

“Next week?” Norris sat in his wheelchair, wearing comfortable gray loungewear. He looked calm and collected, his long fingers tapping quietly on the armrest.

“Yes.” Aaron had no idea what Norris was thinking, so he added, “If you’re in a rush, we could try something else. The dean of Vantage Point University is around. He’s an expert in pharmaceuticals as well. Maybe you could reach out to Magee and ask him to arrange a meeting with Wade?”

Norris’s tapping slowed to a stop. His dark eyes flickered with something unreadable. “Irvin mentioned his sisters are both students at Vantage Point University, right?”

Aaron wasn’t sure why the topic had switched so suddenly, but after a moment’s thought, he nodded. “Yes, he did.”

Without thinking, he blurted out, “Are you planning to visit Vantage Point University, Mr. White?”

He surprised himself by asking. The Whites and Russells had always been family friends, but Mr. White barely had more than a passing acquaintance with Rebecca. Why would he think he’d suddenly want to see her?

Norris shook his head. “No rush.”

He said it like a refusal, but the words made Aaron uneasy. He didn’t say he wouldn’t go, just that there was no hurry. Was he really thinking of going to Vantage Point University? Was it because of Rebecca?

Aaron kept his worries to himself. He didn’t dare say more.
