“No way. That’s my private stuff. You’re not checking anything.”
Gavin pushed himself up, glaring at Rebecca, who looked totally unfazed, and Garnett, standing quietly beside her. “If you won’t admit it, just wait. I’ll make sure you lose the exam—then you won’t have a choice but to admit it.”
He was just making excuses to walk away. He needed time to find someone stronger who could help him build better evidence. That way, when he handed it to the administration, he’d look airtight.
But things never go the way you plan.
He’d barely taken a step when Lily appeared.
“What do you think you’re all doing? Shouldn’t you be studying during self-study? Why are you blocking the doorway and making a scene?”
She’d heard the commotion from down the hall, and as soon as she arrived, she spotted Rebecca standing right in Gavin’s way.
No surprise, she thought. Of course Rebecca was in the middle of this.
Lily’s face was already tight with anger as she shot a look at Rebecca. “You again? The exam’s the day after tomorrow, and everyone is working hard to prepare. But you, a brand new student, aren’t even trying to catch up. All you do is cause trouble. You’re honestly beyond saving.”
“Wow, do you have some kind of superpower, Lily? You show up, take one look, and decide everything’s my fault. With instincts like that, you picked the wrong career.” Rebecca shot back, her voice sharp and cool.
Rebecca’s words hit every nerve. You could almost see Lily’s temper spike.
“If you weren’t always stirring things up, do you really think people from other classes would just wander into Class A?” Lily’s voice climbed even higher.
“Class A never had these kinds of issues before. If you don’t want to be here, go talk to Wade and get transferred out. Stop acting like trouble follows you everywhere.”
