The Coma Prince’s Fiancée novel Chapter 129

Everybody got why Garnett and Gavin made that bet. Their history was messy and they’d held a grudge for ages, so it made sense. But Rebecca? What exactly was she doing in the middle of all this?

“If I’m not wrong, that new girl’s only been here a week, right? She’s already stirred up so much drama. First, she gets into fights, and now she’s going after Magee. Does she have a death wish or what?”

“I don’t think she’s out of her mind. Honestly, I think she knows exactly what she’s doing. Getting Magee’s attention is probably just her goal.”

“She wishes. Going after someone like Magee? Talk about reaching for the stars. At our school, maybe only Paulina could be considered on his level. Rebecca? Please, what is she even thinking?”

“Forget the Magee thing, what really gets me is how she said she’s going to take first place. Do you guys think it’s… I don’t know, actually possible?”

As soon as the words were out, everyone started connecting the dots.

“You mean Wade…?”

“No way. Wade’s like a legend around here. Even if he looks out for her, he wouldn’t go as far as breaking his own rules, would he?”

“I wouldn’t bet on it. Remember last time? She beat those guys up, but in the end, Wade stood by her and even let her decide if they’d get expelled or not.”

“Stop it, you’re freaking me out. I just want to graduate from Vantage Point without getting caught up in anything. I’m going to the library.”

“Same. Wade is like our hero. He’s a total research maniac. I can’t believe someone like him would get involved in petty things… Anyway, I just don’t buy it.”

Most people wanted to think there was nothing going on between Rebecca and Wade, but nobody could really explain why he always took her side.

Inside Wade's office, the atmosphere felt completely different.

After sending Ablitt out, Wade put on a friendly smile and made his way carefully over to Rebecca.

“Bekki, I know you’re not a fan of trouble. Moving to Vantage Point must’ve been tough for you. But look, you wanted the bet and I agreed, didn’t I? So you’d better be prepared. I can’t have you getting shown up by my grandnephew or I’ll never live it down.”

“No thanks. I just want to live my own life.”

Her family was all she needed. She had zero interest in piling more drama on her shoulders, especially not with a family as big and influential as Wade’s, where every relationship was ten times as complicated and every problem seemed stickier than usual.

Wade understood, and his expression fell, a trace of sadness showing.

“I get that trouble’s not your thing, but I’m getting old. There’s a lot I can’t do anymore, and some things need to be finished by someone young. But most people just aren’t up for the job. After thinking about it, you’re really the only one who could handle it all.”

He paused, his voice turning a little heavier.

“Bekki, I really hope you’ll reconsider. As long as I’m around, if you ever agree to become my successor, I’d do anything for you. Absolutely anything you want….”

Rebecca could hear the complicated emotions behind his words—helplessness, hope, and something that weighed on both of them.
