“Exactly, I haven’t seen any students work this hard since the college admission exams. And honestly, it’s all because of that girl Rebecca. If she hadn’t called everyone out, I don’t think these students would’ve shaped up this quickly.”
Rebecca?
Ablitt couldn’t believe it at first, but with the way Wade seemed unusually interested in her, he decided to dig deeper. He asked them to tell the whole story from the beginning.
After listening, he stared in shock for a long while before it dawned on him why Wade thought Rebecca was so important.
Wade might have been all the way out in Cabinda, hardly dealing with the university’s day-to-day business. Still, he had to have noticed that Vantage Point University was getting worse each year.
Look at this year’s Grand Resonance. Last year, even if their students didn’t take first place in the preliminaries, at least half the top five were from Vantage Point. This year, only Paulina made it through. That was unheard of.
So Wade must have decided to shake things up. He broke tradition to enroll Rebecca, a girl who had dropped out of a lower-tier college, hoping she’d motivate the others, push them to work harder, maybe even wake up their competitive spirit.
Yeah, that had to be it.
Trust Wade to come up with something this clever.
Ablitt couldn’t help but be impressed.
...
Later that night, Rebecca finished her evening study session and headed back to her private dorm room. Wade had set it up just for her.
She’d barely sat down and pulled out her phone—ready for a few games—when Laura called.
“Hey, remember that person I turned down earlier? Well, they’re back. And they’re kind of a big deal. They just offered double what we quoted before. I didn’t dare turn them down without asking you,” Laura said, sounding a little desperate.
Rebecca rarely heard her that frazzled. “Who is it?”
Laura took a long breath before answering.
“The White family. I don’t know their exact background, but even the Russells—the richest family in Cabinda—treat them with extra respect. And they really want to buy BLUE this time. Norris had his assistant reach out. He wants to meet face to face. Should we agree?”
Rebecca was pouring herself some water. As soon as she heard Norris’s name, she hesitated, then actually smiled.
