The examination room was buzzing in disbelief.
"The president is right there. Isn't Lily going too far mocking Mr. Morgan?"
"Of course. Didn't you hear the Dean scold her?"
"But I felt like the Dean was hinting at something else."
"Honestly, I felt that too..."
Inside the room, Lily realized she spoke out of turn after being reprimanded by the Dean. She quickly explained to the president, "Mr. Lane, I didn't mean it that way."
Wade Lane gave her a cold, piercing glance. "You know exactly what you meant."
The crowd tensed. Wade was rarely on campus, but nothing escaped his notice. Their awe and fear of him ran deep, and nobody dared to breathe too loudly.
Lily panicked, wanting to explain further, but Wade cut her off.
His weathered eyes were like ice. "Regarding Garnett's situation, what are the teachers' thoughts? Should he be given one minute to continue playing?"
The teachers looked to Ablitt, the Dean. Ablitt was anxious. He couldn't read Wade's mind. But Wade rarely intervened in student affairs. Asking them probably meant he wanted them to give the kid a chance.
Ablitt suggested, "Mr. Lane, the students worked hard for this. He only needs one more minute. How about we let him finish?"
Wade didn't respond immediately. The other teachers caught Ablitt's hint and nodded in agreement.
Wade raised his hand, signaling Garnett to continue.
Garnett hadn't expected the turnaround. He loosened his grip on the violin and bowed respectfully. "Thank you, President, Dean, and teachers."
Jack Morgan, who couldn't speak up earlier, encouraged him. "Don't be nervous. Calm down, you've got this!"
Gavin clenched his fists as he saw the Dean and teachers looking satisfied.
Ablitt spoke first. "Garnett, is this an original composition?"
"Yes, Dean," Garnett nodded.
"Excellent. Worthy of being Mr. Morgan's student. You have impressive talent!" Ablitt praised.
The other teachers nodded in approval. Lily pursed her lips, her eyes flashing with anger, but stayed quiet.
Seeing no objections, and with Wade remaining silent, Ablitt announced, "Alright, since everyone has made their stance clear, I announce that Garnett's exam result is—"
"Dean, wait! I have something to say!"
Gavin suddenly stood up, loudly interrupting.
