Fabian and Madonna had been worried at first, but hearing Rebecca speak, everything suddenly made sense. Compared to Jennifer, who was always stirring up trouble, they trusted their own daughter much more.
Jennifer’s face froze for a moment. She was secretly annoyed that Rebecca was not so easy to trick. Catching herself, she put on an even more dramatic look of pain and forced out a weak, trembling voice. “I’m not pretending. I… I really hurt...”
Sophia glared at Rebecca, her voice sharp and angry. “Enough, Rebecca. My mom is already suffering and you’re still picking on her. Do you even care about anyone but yourself?”
She looked like she might burst into tears any second. “Would you only believe her if she actually died right in front of you?”
Paulina furrowed her brows, clearly displeased. “Rebecca, I know you’ve been through a lot, but can’t you see Jennifer’s miserable right now? Could you stop pushing her? Both Mom and Dad are worried sick.”
Madonna spoke up, sounding perfectly calm. “Rebecca, you figured out what was wrong with Jennifer before just by looking at her. You must have studied medicine. How about you check on her now? If it turns out to be something serious, we can call in the professionals.”
Paulina and Jennifer both couldn’t believe what they were hearing. Jennifer’s face went pale with shock.
Wait… did they not trust her?
Fabian caught Jennifer’s look and his eyes turned cold. He nodded, playing along. “Rebecca, I’ll count on you.”
As soon as Sophia heard their parents agree, she jumped up in protest. “No way. Fabian, she’s a liar. You can’t trust anything she says. I won’t let her get anywhere near my mom.”
But Madonna had already made up her mind. Her voice was firm. “Sophia, enough. Move aside.”
Sophia ignored her, shouting at Rebecca to stay away.
Rebecca glanced at Sophia coolly. “If you try to stop me, don’t blame me for what happens.”
Paulina’s expression tightened, a hint of worry in her eyes. What did Rebecca mean by that?
“Don’t touch my mom!” Sophia tried to break free and stop Rebecca, but Madonna held her back firmly. “Sophia, enough. Rebecca is trying to help your mother.”
Jennifer watched as the needle came closer and closer until every muscle in her body was wound as tight as a wire.
Rebecca could see she was about to snap and loosened her grip just a little.
Right on cue, Jennifer shrieked and knocked Rebecca’s hand away. She scrambled up and dashed behind Fabian, her face full of terror.
“She was going to stab me with that giant needle, Fabian. She wants to kill me, not help me. Please, stop her!”
Rebecca didn’t chase after her. She just played with the needle in her hand, calm and even a little amused.
Jennifer finally realized something wasn’t quite right. The others were watching her now, waiting to see what she’d do next.
