The Coma Prince’s Fiancée novel Chapter 66

Madonna looked anxious, glancing up just as Paulina came down the stairs. Her voice softened, almost pleading. “Paulina, we still haven’t gotten Rebecca’s acceptance letter from Vantage Point University. Could you check for me? If it keeps getting delayed, maybe your dad and I should contact the admissions office ourselves.”

Paulina’s hand tightened on the banister. She still remembered the sting of asking her dad for help with her own application to Vantage Point — how he’d refused, no hesitation, just a flat no. That memory hadn’t faded, even now.

She forced a smile, keeping her frustration hidden. “Mom, I already talked to Ablitt—the teaching director, about it. He said Rebecca’s all set since I recommended her. The letter should show up any day now. I’ll double-check.”

“Thank you, sweetheart.” Madonna smiled, all gentle warmth. “I just want to start getting Rebecca’s things ready for school.”

Paulina nodded, pushing down a flare of jealousy. She was so good at hiding it by now.

It didn’t even cross her mind how Madonna had been just as excited for her after she finished the College Admission Exam — maybe even more so than she had been herself. Madonna obsessed over her acceptance letter, spent a whole summer fussing over what to pack, got misty-eyed every time someone mentioned the word college.

Rebecca actually heard from Vantage Point before anyone else, but not in the way the rest of the family was expecting. The letter didn’t arrive first. Instead, Wade found out she’d be attending through Odom and immediately burst out laughing. He called that night, giddy.

He tried to joke around like he’d seen online. “Looks like my big payday is finally here. As soon as you show up, I want a selfie together. I’ll send it to all those old guys, let them eat their hearts out!”

He sent the acceptance letter off right after that. If he hadn’t been drowning in back-to-school chaos, he probably would’ve shown up in person just to hand it over.

A couple of days later, dinner at the Russells’ was, as usual, filled with lingering tension about the missing letter. Madonna brought it up again, unable to help herself.
