The Coma Prince’s Fiancée novel Chapter 85

Rebecca noticed the weird looks people were giving them and shot Wade a glare, making it clear she wasn’t in the mood.

Wade had waited ages for a chance like this. No way was he backing off now. But when he caught Bekki’s icy warning look, he quickly glanced away. That’s when he spotted his not-so-bright grandnephew. Without thinking, he grabbed the guy and pulled him out of the crowd.

“You little brat! I’ve been looking all over for you. Why aren’t you in my office? What are you messing around out here for?”

Magee had been searching for Paulina and was totally caught off guard when he got yanked aside. He nearly lost his temper, but the familiar voice made his blood run cold.

“Uncle Wade… What are you doing at school?”

Weren’t they supposed to keep their relationship a secret at school? Wade himself had said so. Why was he the one making a scene now?

Everyone who’d been guessing if Wade and Rebecca really knew each other suddenly looked like they had all the answers—that is, the answer they expected, not what was actually happening.

Right, they thought, how could some nobody who only got admitted thanks to connections actually know Mr. Wade?

Wade ignored their stares. He hooked his arm tighter around Magee and basically dragged him over in front of Rebecca.

“This must be the new student trying to break the endurance record, right? So bold! I’m rooting for you.”

Ablitt could hardly believe it. Wade had been terrifying just a moment ago, but now he was beaming, almost goofily proud.

Off to the side, Paulina and Irvin just stared, speechless.

It took a few seconds for Paulina to find her words. “Irvin, that really is Wade, isn’t it? Why does it look like he knows Rebecca?”

Irvin’s eyes narrowed, a hint of doubt in his voice. “Come on. Let’s go check it out.”

As they stepped closer, they heard Rebecca say to Wade, sounding ice-cold, “Thanks, but you’re in my way. Could you move?”

Both Paulina and Irvin felt their hearts drop. Was Rebecca seriously talking to Wade like that? Wade was the kind of man even high-ranking officials treated carefully. Shouldn’t she be more polite?

Ablitt nearly fainted. He rushed to jump in. “Hey, you need to show some respect to Mr. Wade. You’d better—”

He didn’t get to finish. Wade cut him off with a sharp, “Quiet!”

Ablitt clapped his hand over his mouth, terrified.

The next second, the always fearsome Wade smiled kindly at Rebecca. “My bad, I’ll move. Just be careful, all right? Don’t hurt yourself.”

Paulina looked at the scene, completely stunned. She could hardly believe how polite Wade was being.

Paulina wasn’t listening. She couldn’t look away from Rebecca and Wade. Her thoughts were a chaotic mess of confusion and frustration.

Rebecca was a nobody, the kind of person even her adoptive parents didn’t want. How could she possibly know someone like Wade? He was a national treasure, someone even her own parents might never get the chance to meet. There was just no way Rebecca deserved this.

But no matter what she thought, nothing could change the fact that Wade was giving Rebecca special attention.

Neely finally got close enough to say hi, but before he could, Rebecca took off for her run, kicking up a wave of dust and gravel that hit him straight in the face.

She was so fast that everyone just stared, shell-shocked.

“She’s gotta be faster than Daniel!”

“Did I really see that? Is she for real? That doesn’t even look real.”

“Oh wow. I think I’ve found my new idol.”

Some people were floored, but not everyone was convinced.

“Don’t get too excited yet. Maybe she’s just quick at the start. She might burn out soon.”
