Chapter 161
Autumn Lopez received a slightly cryptic “thank you” text from Linda. She paused
for a moment, then chuckled softly.
It seems Linda finally figured it out.
Back when Autumn was trying to lock down the wealthy businessman’s investment, she had done a lot of digging into him and his wife.
She knew their marriage had long since devolved into a rotten swamp.
She’d tried to talk some sense into Linda before, but Linda wasn’t ready to let all her years of effort go down the drain.
Even less was she willing to step aside and let the other woman take her place.
But now, it looked like she had finally come to her senses.
This is how a woman should live.
Always have the courage to start over, and never act like you can’t survive without
a man.
Even on their own, women could live brilliant lives.
In high spirits, Autumn returned to her room, pushing all that messy drama to the
back of her mind.
Her belly was gradually starting to show, and she had to make sure she got enough rest.
This was, after all, the Bennett Group’s precious heir. She couldn’t let anything happen to the baby.
While Autumn was comfortably enjoying a relaxing massage, Lydia Lopez was in the hospital, finally agreeing to a skin graft from a donor.
The surgery proceeded normally under local anesthesia.

Chapter 161
Lydia could feel the doctors moving instruments across her face.
The thought that someone else’s skin was about to be stitched onto her own face suddenly brought on a powerful wave of nausea.
She wanted to scream for them to stop, but it felt like something was blocking her
throat.
Her eyes flew wide open, but she couldn’t make a sound–it was the terrifying feeling of sleep paralysis.
The doctors and nurses were all focused on the surgery, only noticing from the monitor that the patient’s heart rate was a bit high.
But it was still within a normal range, so they didn’t think much of it.
The surgery was ultimately completed without a hitch.
As Lydia was wheeled out, she saw Mrs. Lopez waiting at the door, and tears
immediately welled up in her eyes.
“Mom…”
Lydia’s hoarse voice instantly brought tears to her mother’s eyes.
“Lydia… are you okay? My poor baby…”
The mother and daughter were about to break down in each other’s arms when a nurse rushed over to separate them.
“The surgery was just completed. The patient needs to control her emotions and avoid crying. If the bandages get wet, there’s a risk of infection. Family, please control yourself as well.”
Mrs. Lopez could only nod.
Back in the newly changed hospital room, Lydia scanned the area but didn’t see her father. She frowned and asked, “Where’s Dad?”

Mrs. Lopez’s expression soured. “He said he was too ashamed to be here and
went home.”
Lydia was furious. “How could he just go home? I was in surgery, and he just left? Does he even care that I’m his daughter?”
“Your father has seen Autumn’s value now,” Mrs. Lopez said. “I’m afraid…”
A knot of panic tightened in Lydia’s chest.
“What do you mean he’s seen Autumn’s value?”
Mrs. Lopez sighed. “Don’t you get it yet?”
“Even with the skin graft, the fact that your face was injured is set in stone. And this whole mess today was huge. In your father’s mind, you’re only half a cash cow
now.”
“If you had successfully married into a good family or made it work with Mars, you’d be a whole one. Do you really think he helped us this time because he cares about you? He was just worried that if you were truly disfigured, you wouldn’t be
able to marry into a wealthy family and bring him any benefits. At the same time,
he wanted to use this skin graft to put Autumn in her place.”
“Your father is an incredibly selfish man. He has only ever loved himself; he doesn’t see anyone else.”
Lydia lowered her eyes.
Mrs. Lopez stroked Lydia’s hair. “Good thing I haven’t completely trusted your father all these years. I managed to move some money. Remember, from now on,
you need to focus on healing and recovering as soon as possible. You have to lock down Mars Wright, but don’t let up on anyone else either.”
“Men go out and conquer the world, but a woman who can conquer a man gets the whole damn thing. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
Lydia nodded firmly.

But despite the mother and daughter’s plans, in the early hours of the morning, Lydia’s wound suddenly began to feel hot and itchy.
She couldn’t stop herself from scratching it and came away with a hand full of
blood.
Terrified, Lydia immediately pressed the nurse’s call button.
After examining her face, the doctor wore a grim expression and instructed the nurse to prepare for a second surgery.
Lydia listened as the doctor and nurse tossed around professional jargon. Although she couldn’t understand most of it, a terrible premonition bloomed in her
heart.
So, just before being wheeled into the operating room, Lydia found a chance to grab a nurse’s arm, her face a mask of terror. “What’s happening to me?”
The nurse patted her shoulder reassuringly. “You’re having a rejection reaction.
Don’t worry, Ms. Lopez, this happens sometimes with surgeries. The doctor will
take care of it.”
But Lydia was far from reassured. “My face… my face will be okay, right?”
She tried to touch her face, but the nurse stopped her. “Don’t touch it.”
“We’re going into surgery now. Just try to relax. Don’t be so nervous.”
Lydia was trembling all over.
“How can I not be nervous?!”
“Do you have any idea how important my face is? I’m warning you, if anything happens to my face, I will never let you get away with it!”
“I’ll have my people sue you! This hospital is a sham!”
The nurse’s brow furrowed. It wasn’t the first time she’d dealt with an
